Wow! What an undertaking.
I want to thank you and the other friends for helping with these animals on your friend's behalf.
YES, anyone with pets (especially exotics and/or more difficult animals) needs an emergency contact list. I have that in place for all of mine.
A few years ago I was...
My leopard tortoise, Levi will be 12 next spring. I raised him in SoCal the first 2 years of his life. The last 9 and half years we've been in Southern Oregon. That's the experience I have to speak on the matter.
Levi lives outside, full time, all year long. He has a fully insulated, heated...
Yes, I follow the finder, Gabby on Instagram.
That was my first thought, too. The owner who lost the tortoise stated she raised this Sulcata, confirming that is the case.
Yes, I'm still using the box.
I bought a mini oil filled radiator for WalMart. I'm still using the same one, going on 10 years. They likely have new models out. Just be sure you get a mini so it's short enough to fit in the house.
It looks like our move is temporarily on pause. :tort: ❤️
I submitted some resumes on Tuesday. By Thursday, I'd had 2 interviews and a job offer. My hubbs has been out of work without hire for months...go figure.
I'll be taking the job to keep us here for now. It's not enough to be the sole...
What do you feed during the winter?
Just looked this place up. Super neat. If we end up moving there, I'll likely apply for work.
I appreciate all of the insight you have shared so far. It is valuable information that my husband and I are covering, together.
Right now, there are still many...
Thanks for all the additional info.
@wellington Barb, do your tortoises get to occasionally graze during winter in Chicago? Or are they locked up in the shed full time for the winter months.
@zovick have you ever tried timothy or orchard hay pellets? I used them years ago with Levi was small...
Can you please share what you fed your tortoises during winter?
Would Mazuri tortoise diet with soaked timothy hay pellets as a base be sufficient?
Thank you,
Your comment is very insightful. I will re-read it many times.
I love the sweet comments that tell me to take him, and that I'm invested thus far, so keep going. :<3: However, I honestly do fear this change. I have NO clue what I'm in for.
@wellington Barb, can you elaborate on your Chicago...
I have a tortoise named Levi. He's an 11.5 year old male leopard tortoise. Just shy of 18" & almost 30lbs, he's not a small guy. I've had him since he hatched. We started out in SoCal, moved to Southern Oregon and now we are looking to move to South Dakota. I love this guy. He's been through so...
Ok, it looks like the move to Oklahoma is a go. We met with a realtor and will be listing our home next week.
I will do my best to document Levi's move. It's never easy to move. It's harder adding animals and even harder going halfway across the county. Yikes! But I want all those who feel...
Yes, your tortoise's eyes are swollen shut. I'm sorry. The conditions that led to this situation usually make for a tough road of recovery.
Best thing you can do for the little guy is to read the care sheet, set him up properly and keep him hydrated. Wish you the best luck.
