Thanks for the tips, right now I am picking weeds from all over the property, but I need to prep for when those are not in harvest mode. I have opuntia, not the spineless, so I'll look for some. Should be pretty easy to find I am guessing.
At some point I would like our CDT to remain outside throughout the night. I am going to monitor temps in the burrow for a few weeks to see how low it gets. I am curious as to how low a temp is considered acceptable in order for him to remain in it over night?

We recently adopted a CDT, age = at least 50 years old. He eats dry grass: Timothy, Oat, Bermuda, as well as green Bermuda, and grazes in the yard for other weeds. He eats SO much that I have resorted to harvesting weeds at places where I know no chemical are used. I did purchase weed seed...
I would love to adopt CDT, I have joined the CTTC of Silicon Valley and have filled out adoption papers some months ago, still waiting fr a possible adoption. I miss not have a tortoise...

My husband disassembled the tortoise table today, when I got home from work, it was so sad to see a big empty space, I sure loved that little fellow :(
No, I have no chemicals...He lived in a tortoise table inside the house with all the proper habitat items...water, organic food, calcium vitamin d, just everything was fine for 3 years...he was active this morning...fat and healthy...I have no idea what went wrong...maybe he climbed on his hide...
I rescued Flip 3 years ago a an injured barely yearling and nursed him to great health....all was well, good appetite, poops activitiy...I cam home from work today to find him flaccid, apparently not breathing and eyelids at half mast...he doesnt hibernate and I keep him with all the appropriate...
It could be that the room has been hotter...he seems just fine and bright with excellent appetite, he is probably 1.5 years, and has really grown great...I'll keep a watchful eye...tx

Flip has been with me since Jan 2010, I adopted him from the CTTC, he was barely a yearling and was mauled by a coyote or dog...He was vet checked and followed for a year and has grown by leaps and bounds...he eats great, but I am noticing him in his water dish a lot this past week...do I need...
I ended up taking Flip to the vet, it was expensive, but worth it. He had xray which revealed no blockages, he had blood work which revealed a slight increase in basophils, and borderline anemia. For treatment he got a b complex injection, a gavage of panacur & flagyl...I have to keep his...
after multiple warm water soaks ( with vitamins & pureed pumpkin in it ) and mineral oil enemas & warm day/night temps, Flip pooped in his soak this am just before we left for the vet...we cancelled vet, and continued the soaks...this eve he is eating again thank GOODNESS!! Hallelujah...
Yes I will go get some optuntia today, I couldn't see anything blocking, but an area looked a bit white but not hard...poor thing, when should I resume feeding??
We have just been through such worry about our yearling CDT. He went off food and then couldn't poop for 3 days...I soaked him Saturday/Sunday in vitamin water 3xd and made a little enema tube and shot mineral oil in there as best I could...this morning in the soak he passed poop, yay...But now...
My normally active yearling CDT has been off food now for the 2nd day. I didn't worry day one, as sometimes he east less in a day than other days. I gave him a good soak yesterday...no poo, today I have soaked him and noticed him trying to pass poo, I just now looked and can see him opening...
