I don't make it around here often. I have been keeping marginateds primarily for 10 years. They work out great in the Arkansas climate. Even started a website at https://www.marginatedtortoise.org/
As for the group discussion, I never have more than one male in a group and I often end up...
When I was seeing people make tortoises boxes for the winter on the forums they are using Plywood that I am guessing is a 4x8 ft floor. Is that not for leopards and sulcatas.
Here in Arkansas I bring these tortoises indoors when it's below 60 at night and below 70 in the day. Usually, that means Nov-Feb.
I have been laying down Mulch/Topsoil about 1-2ft thick and giving them half of the garage (that I should say I heat and use UVB lights from lightyourreptiles)...
I should also say this is their night house most of the time. Every day that it gets over 70 I bring them back out which is alot of October and even some of November and then March.
Yeah the garage doors are heavily insualted and I replaced the windows this month as the ones the were in it were very old and horrible. The walls are cinderblocks inside with stucco exterior. Last year with the electric oil heater the only time it got under 75 was in our coldest weels and so...
I bring in 3 leopards and 6 redfoots for the winter (about 5 months) into a two car garage that I don't have to put cars in. So I have lots of space. i cover the floor with Cypress Mulch at least 6 inches deep and in some places 2 ft deep for egg laying. I got arcadia lights on a timer for...
These are great hatchlings that are 2-3 months old. They are $110 for one or $100 for more than one. These are hatched by me by great healthy parents. All shells are perfect and all tortoises are eating and using the bathroom great.
Photos of the parents can be seen at MarginatedTortoise.org...
Glass has not been an issue with any of my tortoises. I have had hatchlings for about 7 years now. I know some long time keepers say no but maybe mine are just really smart. :)
What do you use @Tom? I am there. http://www.lightyourreptiles.com/bulbs/arcadia/?sort=featured&page=1
I am guessing. http://www.lightyourreptiles.com/arcadia-d3-t-5-22-inch-24-watt-12-desert-uvb-the-original-reptile-ho-t5-in-north-america/
Thank you for your help. I am buying 3 or 4 of...
That's kind of what I thought. That's why I came here I thought one of you might have an amazing idea.
It really is a nice show piece s I am trying to figure out how to make it as nice inside while also being functional. Maybe I can mount a tube light and make it look like a little terrace...
I was very lucky and found a Pet store quality brand new setup on Craigslist. A furniture store had won it at an auction and didnt know what they had.
It has two glass enclosed areas 2 ft by 4.5 feet. I am wanting to keep Baby leopards in there for the first 3 months. I have 5 in one right...
It seems to have slowly grown over the year. Eating great, laying eggs, pooping fine and seems fine.
Is this shell rot?
She is probably a 25-30 year old tortoise.
Should I do an antifungal creme?
Thank you that is hugely helpful. I have an oil filled radiant heater for the whole room as a heater. I am going to plan this out a bit better and get an Electrician to put in some new outlets for me.
I have a two car garage that I don't use at all, so of course, we have turned it into a turtle Winter House here in Arkansas. I have Marginateds, Redfoots and Leopards in there all separated by Species. The Floor is a 1.5 ft thick of Cypress Mulch and Dirt. I have a heater inside that keeps...
