Sulcata For Adoption - DFW Area, TX

We have decided that we are definitely going to be re-homing Rasputin. I am not looking for any fee; I simply want to find the best 'forever' home possible for him. Anyone wishing to be considered will need to submit a few pictures of the available habitat and answer the below questions: 1)...

Sulcata For Adoption - DFW Area, TX

Rachel, Thanks for the quick response and interest. I sent you a message. All, Just a quick note: I am more than open to an individual adopting Rasputin, but if you are affiliated with a 501c(3) organization please let me know.

Sulcata For Adoption - DFW Area, TX

I'm currently considering offering my 3.5 year old male sulcata up for adoption. He is very healthy and has been a quick grower. I'll provide a few pictures and detailed measurements this weekend, but his shell is very healthy aside from a slight indentation in the upper posterior that has been...

    Outdoor day pen

My Sulcata used to literally climb up into the hibiscus to get at the leaves... of course now he weighs too much and he just pushes himself on top of a branch and strips the entire thing. It's funny because the top part of the plant is full and beautiful, but the bottom levels are basically barren.

    SHIPPING

I've had terrible experiences with FedEx, particularly the customer service. But in FedEx's defense both of my snakes arrived via FedEx and were delivered at the very beginning of the earliest possible delivery window. UPS is my preferred shipping/delivery service for everyday shipments. I've...

When did your juvie start eating Grassland or Mazuri?

My Sulcata loves the Mazuri and has since it was first offered, but he's not thrilled that I'm trying to get him to eat it dry now though...

    Effects of cold water bathing

Tortoises are cold-blooded animals. Sulcatas un particular are from a very warm environment. Cold temperatures are not good for them or even potentially dangerous. I'm not sure I understand the dynamics of your situation, but those are the facts. I generally start my soaks in the mid-90s F...

    Snake kills children ?! D:

That would be interesting... although it doesn't seem to fit the facts up to this point. Do you have a citation/reference for this? I'd love to read it.

Loneliness / wanting to get another

Based on this response, I'd say stick with the single tortoise. Not only are tortoises generally solitary creatures, but it sounds like yours is established and happy as "king" of his domain.

    Tortoise owners in Texas

I literally grew up right across the street (FM 1960) from you. I live just outside Dallas now though.

    DRAGONS FOUND IN INDONESIA!!

Yes, I did read the article. See below quote from the article dated March 6, 2012. My point about the cows is that the article provides no direct evidence or proper citation of evidence that the cows existed and/or subsequently disappeared. It is purely anecdotal and therefore any attempt to...

    DRAGONS FOUND IN INDONESIA!!

If that article had any credibility, the animal would supposedly be halfway to 15,000 lbs by now. Where are the pictures? I am very skeptical about all cryptids, but I'm positive this one is fake. There are numerous places the cattle could go and the article is so vague, they more than likely...

    Snake kills children ?! D:

I could not agree more with just about this whole post.

    Snake kills children ?! D:

That would be the goal. (And also normally my favorite part of owning snakes.) Some days (and some people) are just more frustrating than others.

    Snake kills children ?! D:

When a poorly cared for pit bull kills a child, how many responsible beagle owners are chastised? I have had numerous people use this story to imply that I am being irresponsible simply by having snakes. One even implied that my wife and I must get rid of our snakes if we ever plan on having...

Had to take the cuttlebone away

They're generally pretty good at self selecting, if you refrain from "junk" foods. If you're worried though, I don't think there will be any problem leaving the cuttle bone out for a period of time. Is there any reason your tortoise might have discomfort around or due to his beak? He could be...

    DRAGONS FOUND IN INDONESIA!!

This time will come for the rest of the world soon enough... I'd say we're pretty much there already.

Had to take the cuttlebone away

It sounds like he might be a little calcium deficient. If you're not comfortable leaving the cuttle bone you might try some high-calcium plants, like collard greens or opuntia cactus. (Plenty of other good choices out there as well.)

Going somewhere for the afternoon? HELP.

It'd be possible, but he would need to be very closely monitored outside and indoors isn't really a place for a tortoise (enclosures obviously being the exception). Plus excess handling/transportation can be stressful.
