Hi!
I have a two year old Russian tortoise that I am unable to continue caring for and am looking for a good home for him to go. Not actually sure of the sex but i've named "him" Yortoise.
I've had him since he was a hatchling but life happens, his shell length is probably around 3-4 inches...
It was kind of a fluke that I got him. He came from a local pet shop, the rest were about as big as he is now and then all of a sudden this tiny little tortoise comes cruising out of a log and starts climbing over the other tortoises. Couldn't NOT take him home with me.
I redid Yorty's home a few days ago. What are your thoughts?
Also, don't worry, you can't see her but my girlfriend was in the shadows right next to the puppy. She sits and stares with a lot of curiosity at Yortoise but she's always very closely controlled if she's around. Usually she's...
So it's been about six months since I got Yortoise, my first tort. Been gone for awhile because of school but Yortoise has been doing great! Just wanted to thank everyone for all their help and advice in the early days! Here's a pic of how much Yortoise has grown. He still had a little remnant...
RE: How to decorate a russian habitate?
Here's my indoor set up. Hes got some stuff to entertain him. I can't keep plants alive either but the aloe in the corner has grown a lot. It gets water once a week or so, plant guy told me it likes its soil to dry before being watered so its easy to not...
I'm on the first floor in my apartment too. In the summer i get maybe 2-3 hours direct sunlight in the morning and the rest of the day is completely shaded so when i was making an outdoor enclosure (which i did in a kiddy pool, which still leaves space for a mini table and 2 chairs on the...
Just out of curiosity what is keeping you from making a larger outdoor home for him on your patio? It may be getting too cold and I don't know the area but you said it doesn't get too cold. Even a larger kiddie pool enclosure which a strong hardware mesh covering during the day when it's...
So I read a lot into this because I'm a grad student studying exercise physiology and pharmacy and that's what we do. Pretty much its thought Beck Weather's condition, which has happened to other people to, was a result of hypoxia not hypobarism. Also, LASIK is a good choice as this effect is...
RE: Introducing Mike & Ike, hatched this week!
So cute! Have you weighed them? I got a itty bitty russian a few weeks ago from a local shop who deals with a local breeder but he was significantly smaller than all the other torts for sale. I have a theory that he either hatched late and the...
My mother and brother have both had it done. My mom about ten years ago when it was fairly new and my brother a year or two ago.
The brother went in for a pre-procedure check up and someone had canceled so he actually got it down that day. It was quick and essentially painless. He went home...
Yortoise, my Russian has a little grumpy face. Even when I know he's happiest he looks at me with this grumpy old man face. It's adorable. He's got some nasturtiums that he loves to munch but some of them are just out of his reach. He'll stretch really out far and stand up really tall but not...
that looks familiar. I just made a new indoor home doing the exact same thing. My tort loves it. Gives him a lot more space to move around and let me put a lot more stuff in it for him to entertain himself with without taking up all of his floor space. Good work :)
We're kind of having a similar debate on a similar thread from a few days ago

You should check it out. I'm still kind of waiting to see what 'the experts' say over there.
Maybe I should clarify Wellington. I wasn't trying to suggest that a tortoise on its back isn't potentially dangerous, but rather the direness of the situation is different. Again, correct me if I am wrong I am still new at this game, but I was under the impression that flipping under heat can...
