    Baby not eating

I'm needing some advice. I'm currently looking after my friend's baby tortoise at my house whilst she is away on holiday. If I'm honest, I'm not sure how old he is or what species he is - but guessing Hermanns/Horsefield or similar. He's not quite as big as the palm of my hand. He's not eaten...

    female, more likely male

Hi not posted here for a while. Probably may not be clear on what I'm saying, so apologies in advance. I got 2 spur thighed (greek) tortoises last year, aged at 6 & said to be both female, also posted pictures on here & also told to be female. After a successful hibernation & 2 very happy...

    UV light

Hi I'm getting ready for my torts to come out of hibernation. I've had a 2 floor tortoise table built for indoors, I'm in the UK, for them. I already have a MVB bulb that I'll put for the top floor but was thinking I would need a UV light for the bottom part to ensure they get all the UV they...

My torts are on wind down ready for hibernating in a few weeks, with them not eating I wondered if they still needed the supplements? If so, how do they get them? Thanks

    When to start hibernation?

Hi I have 2 6yr old spur thighed (TGG). I only got them this year so I haven't gone through a hibernation with them yet. They have previously been hibernated though. I'm in the UK & the temps have already dropped down to between 50-60f max. I have a good idea of the wind down to hibernation, I...

    Shell damage

When I received my TGG they both had what I guess is nail polish on their shutes, to identify them. I can see the area where they're marked is now discoloured on the shell itself. Firstly is it safe for me to use some nail polish remover to get the remaining polish off? & secondly with the...

    Indoor/outdoor tortoises

Hi I'm In the UK with 2 TGG & they have indoor & outdoor enclosures. I was always told they'd more lively when outside in a more natural environment, however my 2 are more lively inside, even on the sunniest of days here (although getting less & less now). They just bed down in a corner or in...

    Hibiscrub

Was just browsing the web & found a general care sheet for non tropical tortoises. It states that you should scrub their shells once a month with hibiscrub. Is that right?

    Temperature question

Last night the temperature dropped to below 14c (57f) where my tortoises stay inside at night or when its too wet outside (in my house between the kitchen & outhouses). I do have a max/min temperature gage, but I'd left it out in the rain & it's now not working, so the temps could be lower...

    Fruit for spur thighed greek

Hi I was just thinking aloud on this one... I know that fruit is not a huge part of my tortoises diet & to limit it so say maybe a strawberry to share, once a week. My question was is it a limited amount of fruit a week or say, a strawberry on Monday, some pepper on Tuesday, an apple on...

    Iphone app issues

Hi I have 2 issues with the app at present... One is that the search option doesn't do anything. So if this had been questioned before, I can't check ;) And 2 is that I get the subscribed thread notification, but when you click on the thread, it closes the whole app. Does anyone else have...

    Outdoor enclosure change round

I I just wanted to show what I've been doing today. Sorry for being a new mum!! ;) Pics are before & after. The updated version has the bottom of the mini greenhouse filled with soil & some plantain & pansies planted & a bigger area now to walk round. On an actual sunny day :)

    Length of time for lighting

If my tortoises are asleep by 6pm, they always are, should I leave the light on until 8pm anyway as it comes on at 8am & this is only 10 hours a day they are awake & accessing the light. This is not very clear, sorry.

    Peoples opinions

Just wondered what reaction you get when you tell people you have tortoises. I'm tired of people telling me they must be boring.

    Weight loss

I've had my tortoises 2.5 weeks now, learning new things everyday. They are continuing to lose weight each week & I'm starting to worry :( one is low on the Jackson's chart & the other is below low. But when I checked when I first got them, they were both low anyway. I've already established...
