    Okay to paint?

I have progressed to designing our tortoise table! I have the rough ideas down, and I will hopefully be able to start construction this weekend. My fiance and I are big Mario fans (only game I can whoop him in!) and we plan on making the table very Mario-esque. The table will be two stories...

    Went shopping!!!

I got my seed mix (Russian Tortoise Mix) and was surprised to find out it takes 6-8 weeks before it will be ready to go (2 weeks for germination, another 6 weeks of growth to get steady roots). Which means I have another 8 weeks to get my enclosure built before I can buy my tort. So, I went...

    Mmmm...thanks?

So I was on Facebook talking about getting a tortoise. Somebody contacted me and told me they had some Mazuri tortoise food they no longer need, and said it was taking up space and I could have it if I wanted. So I got it today and the bag says it expires in 2008. I did a quick search here...

    Tortoise Paradise

Do you have the best enclosure here on the forum? Does your Tortoise Paradise offer something that gives it one up on everything else? I'm looking to see the best of the best of the enclosures here, and I want to know why you think yours is the best here. My fiance has grand plans of a...

    UV Lighting

Hi, not sure whether this belongs here or in the "enlcosure" section. My question is about UV lighting. I know the coil is definitely frowned upon, but I was wondering what type people recommend. I found this...

    Market values

I've been looking at quite a few sites and I've noticed sulcata are cheaper than any other tortoise. Why is this? Is the market flooded with these that breeders have to "give them away"? It seems like so many other species are cheaper to keep, mature faster, etc. that THEY should be cheaper...

    Hay is for horses...and tortoises?

Can I feed grass hay to a Hermann's? Not alfalfa or "straw" but like go down to the local farm feed store and buy hay? Also, can I just give them a cuttlebone...or do I have to actually scrape/powder it for them? If a cuttlebone is given, can I not give calcium powder supplements?

    It has been decided!

A Hermann's tortoise (which I call my "Hermy toy-tal") will be the newest addition to our family. Those of you who have read my other posts know this wasn't the easiest decision to come to, but he's glad he's getting a tortoise, and I'm glad we're not going to be surrendering a sulcata in five...

    Lover's quarrel

My fiance wants a sulcata. He was initially attracted to them due to their size, but after watching numerous videos he likes their "personality". I have been urging him to consider a smaller species, but he really wants one of these giants. All I can think of is it being a "guy thing"...like...

It's too late at night to think if a witty title

Hello all, I have many years under my belt as a reptile owner, but haven't owned one for the past three. I started getting the cold-blooded fever, and was looking into getting back into snakes. But, I guess when you're in a relationship the other person's feelings are important. He loves...
