Unfortunately they both crashed in the last two weeks. They were doing well then just died suddenly with no signs of weight loss or loss of appetite. I knew they would be tricky to get established but after five months I had hoped they would be fine. I hope others have better luck with these...

I’m sure a lot of people would like that and the tortoises would thank you. I would love any tips on this particular species!

    Beautiful Leo

This yearling is growing slow and steady but it sure is beautiful! Just wanted to show off this young one.

    Growth

Got this guy a few months ago and he seems to be doing great! He’s being kept on crushed oyster shells with several hides ( he jams himself in a terra cotta pot and bends his shell a bit lol).

I’ve been monitoring these girls that came in and they are doing well so far. I’ve been giving them space but have been interacting to give them warm soaks every third day. Ideally I would soak them daily but I want to cut down on stress and they are gaining weight to this point. We’re a...

    Parasite

I just got home and checked her out. It’s mealworms... the picture that was sent to me wasn’t great so we’re all good here lol.

    Parasite

My wife just sent this picture of a new tort we have in quarantine. I’ve been lucky to never have a parasitic outbreak so this is new for me. Apparently the female red foot defecated these pieces this morning. They look like mealworms that have been chewed up but I want a second opinion before...

    Enclosure

Yea, I like the way you designed the slate rocks. I think I’m going to get a few more and hopefully make it a bit more realistic and natural. I’m not having any problems with keeping the humidity up I plan on building a larger enclosure and might make it a closed chamber.

    Enclosure

Ignore the light situation, I have a CHE, fluorescent UVB, and basking UVA that I’m going to use. I just wanted an opinion if this 2x4 open top enclosure is adequate for an adult pancake tortoise. I created a secure three layer rock hide, have a half log hide, and a hide that they can climb on...

Ok thanks. I change the hay frequently but that makes sense and is a good idea. I'll make sure to right down all the events so it will come easier next year. Thanks for all your help.

    red foots

I live in Ohio so I have to keep them inside during the colder months. The indoor enclosure is peat moss and cypress mulch 50/50, with hay inside one hide and sphagnum moss in the other. I keep the temperature around 86° on the warm side and around 80° on the cooler side. They love...

Thank you. I'm considering broadening my horizon with a Burmese black tortoise. Keeping tortoises is an addiction!

    red foots

Thank you! The red foots are the best pets I've ever had. Mine act just like dogs, running up wanting to have their head rubbed and hand fed. All of them have a different personality. I'm not an expert but I would be glad to help if I can.

    red foots

Hello, my name is Tyler. I am new to the forum but would like to share my tortoises to the world of fellow tortoise enthusiasts. I currently have 5 red foots (2.1.2) among others. The two 9 inch tortoises are males (tank and boscoe), the 11 inch female is Betty and the two 4.5-5 inch...
