Stumbled across my first Tortoise. Berlandier's/Texas?

I haven't been here in a long time. Thought I would add my two cents. Definitely Texas (Berlandier). I don't like to disagree with any one but whether it has chin glands or not it seems to be a young tortoise and contrary to the info that is put in the literature females can also have chin...

    Identify....(strange colored poop)

RE: Identify.... It is probably what the former owner fed her. If it was processed(like the colored turtle sticks) food or something like yellow sqaush I've had yellow and red poop from these foods being fed exclusively. What are you planing on feeding her?

    Identify....(strange colored poop)

RE: Identify.... Could be urates, or a combination of things. What are you feeding her? How long have you had her? Does she have a good appetite? What type of substrate? Temps? And anything else you think of that might help.

    TORTOISE RESCUE NETWORK

Here is an ad on SA TX CL. The Tortoise has a great yard now, but I talked to the owner and she's only had her for 6 months, now she is moving and can't keep her. Evidently the pyramiding was from prior care. The tortoise is about 70 lbs. She said about as big as a door mat. She wants to get...

    Craigslist Tortoise

I PM'd Erica a little earlier. She hasn't been online for several days, so I don't know when she will get it. Is there somebody else that oversees things if she is not available?

    Cod liver oil??

"Russian" tortoises , just like all living thing need water. What the person you bought her from may have been talking about is with a lot of rain and very cold weather they can get respiratory infections. They do need to be soaked in warm water and they do need water available to drink. If my...

    4 inch rule?

I saw this post and I have never known you to put out false information, but I wondered about this as I had never heard this before. I went back and re-read the law and there it was; (d) Exceptions. The provisions of this section are not applicable to: (2) The sale, holding for sale, and...

My baby is dealing with a URI, is recovery possible?

My baby Gpp got uri when he was about 6 weeks old. The reason was because I let his temps get down to 72* at night. I took him to my Vet and he gave him a baytril injection and sent 10 more home with me in insulin needles(very small). He told me not to get my hopes up, but two years later and he...

    Shelloise not doing well :(

Yes lower the che and cover the top, at least partially, with a more solid material. Probably cover the top first and see if that makes any difference before lowering the che. Try to get hottest up in the 90's. Also as always warm soaks work wonders. Hope she gets better.

    Building a New Outdoor Enclosure

Just a suggestion, but you may want to check with the gas company before you build anything around the gas meter. I know where I live that would not be allowed. Otherwise I love it!

    TORTOISE RESCUE NETWORK

It doesn't look at all to me like a Texas Tortoise, they always have yellow sots in the middle of their scutes and they don't get that black. It does look like it needs lots of help. And if you are not in Texas I don't believe you need a permit. Sorry I'm coming in late.

    What to do?

In some States box turtles are protected. But in the meantime you should take care of it. Research I've done is that box turtles cannot be released any where but where they grew up. Supposedly they will continually travel and are more likely to get killed. I don't know if that is true or not...

Help!! Sami cant open her eyes

Since it's Friday I would like to suggest taking her to the Vet today. She sounds very sick to me, and remember she is a baby and therefore will go down hill faster. I don't know if you have a vet already or not. If not I recommend Universal City Animal Hospital, it's at 2510 Pat Booker and they...
