So, you are planning on hibernating her outside?
I think that my BT was egg bound. I went on vacation for a week and had my neighbor take care of my little pets and she kept trying to dig. My neighbor thought that she was trying to get out of her enclosure so he kept filling in the holes...
As listed above, soakings provide many health benefits. I soak my adult tortoises about every three days for 15 -20 minutes. I visually watch them drink and they seem to really enjoy the soaks.
I agree with johnsonnboswel. Enjoy him. Two males will most likely stress each other out, and well if you get a female and you keep them together the male will always be wanting to mate.
Taffi,
I hope that today brings good news on your little tortoise. Torts are hardly. Hopefully the fluids helped and she she on her way to recovery.
I received a Greek Tortoise that had been kept in a storage unit for months. She was not doing very well when I got her; Didn't want to eat or...
You can hibernate a Hermann's if you want, but hibernation requires care. The tort needs to be kept at a low temperature, ideal is 45-50ish. The temperature can not be freezing (32), or above 60 degrees. Obviously, freezing kills and at 60, the tort's body comes out of hibernation. There is a...
When she first lost her beak, I Googled it and I read that she should grow another one; I was just wondering if anyone had any personal experience with this. Thanks for the reassurance that it will grow back. (I just wish it would grow quicker than it is) :)
One of my box turtles lost her lower beak last summer. The beak got a crack in it and a few days later fell off completely. I was hoping that it would grow back. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? What causes this?
Wow. What makes you think that her growth was accelerated? I thought that Greeks got to be about 8" when adult? I assumed that under the conditions that I got her, not the best, that her growth would have been stunted.
Thanks
I am unsure of her age. I have had her (?) for two years. She is not a baby, I think that her growth was stunted due to her previous care - before I got her.
I have added two additional pictures of her whole body.
Thanks
Silly questions, but I would like to know....
If in the wild, a female turtle makes a nest for her eggs then covers them up, why do we not cover them up when we choose to incubate them in vermiculite in a small aquarium?
I also would like to know how quickly a turtle embryo sets up in the...
Thank you all for your replies, even you, LeopardTortLover.
I am from Southern California, hence the name. It is not a CDT. This tort has a sharp beak unlike the CDT's soft mouth. I was thinking more on the lines of a Marginated or Greek but I wanted others thoughts. I have added a couple...
