Large Adult Male Sulcata Looking for Forever Home

Rumor is our big guy, he currently weighs about 27 pounds. His age is unknown. He came to us 3 years ago and has resided on our farm since. As some might remember he did escape at one point and was found 120 some days later! We are downsizing our farm and planned to bring him with but he has...

    Itty bitty

While our 20 pound sulcata is on the lamb we still have our hearts open for others in need of fostering and rehab. Luck would have it we acquired this little guy just days ago. We are giving him antibiotics every 3 days (injected), vitamin A drops twice daily in each eye (they're sealed shut!)...

    Lost 20 lb sulcata.

Our big guy escaped yesterday. We live in Havana Fl, in the south side that borders Tallahassee. Luckily the weather has warmed a bit but still. Absolutely heartbroken. If you guys could help spread the word we would appreciate it. I've attached an image of our baby. Gosh we hope we find him soon.

18 pounds = outside over winter?

I've been plugging away at Echo's outdoor enclosure pictured here: http://www.tortoiseforum.org/thread-79823.html And plugging away on a goat playground within the same pasture so it's been a great time *sarcasm* We have inherited an 18 pound sulcata, this is a big change compared to our...

    Outdoor enclosure progress thus far.

Hey guys and gals :) We moved recently and quickly dove into creating a proper outdoor habitat for the kids. I thought I'd go ahead and post our progress. Rather proud of myself (it doesn't take much really.) We have this sort of code we follow in that we salvage, freecycle, craigslist, make...

Outdoor enclosure liner/dig proofing? Yes? No?

Hey there, I haven't been around too much since the last build we did. Since then we've relocated a good 8 hours north (North Fl) and now instead of a 650sq ft historic home in South Florida, we have a farm on a few acres. Needless to say the outdoor tortsie build started immediately....that...

    Help creating top/closed chamber enclosure

Hey there, remember that salvaged thing we found? Well we're FINALLY making headway on its conversion to Echo's enclosure. We have a base made, inside scrubbed, de-funked, KILLZ sealed and soon to be visqueened. The issue is now trying to figure out how to close in the top to keep humidity up...

    Repurpose project

Some of you might remember a couple weeks ago I posted a picture of a salvaged ...thing... Well it's been sitting on my front porch (dueling banjos) since being found and I was given orders today to get moving on repurposing it. SO as promised I came to you guys. As most salvaged things go...

    Going out of town

We have to go out of town for a few days coming up and I was wondering what you all do when you need to travel? We'll be gone 2.5 days so obviously Echo can't be home alone. We just moved and I've yet to find anyone here we trust to watch her. We're boarding the dogs & cats at the hospital but...

    Baking substrate

So I'm baking Echos coco coir top soil mix right now thanks to a weird infestation of tiny bugs. My question was what temp and for how long? The search on my app won't work, sorry if this has been asked before.

    Echos first radiograph

Tonight while getting Echo from her outdoor space and bringing her in for a soak I noticed this piece of something hanging off her, one time she got a squash vine stuck around her leg so I assumed this was similar...then I noticed it was in her mouth and that it was one of those string type...

    Crab fail

We had to hunt around town for a few weeks to find any sort of hermit crab, which turns out is a tree crab not a hermit, close though! Any how, we find a bunch, pick the smallest and most active, put it in her enclosure and what happens? It runs and tunnels and has yet to come out. It's been 2...

    Huge contradictions

Hey there, I'm like most everyone in the confused department in regards to some food items for sulcatas. There is conflict at every turn! Right now our girl is getting organic spring mix, orchard & alfalfa hay and mazuri with a pellet of grassland tort food and a sprinkle of salad topper...

    Normal shell growth?

Hey there, was measuring Echo today (3.23 inches) and checking her shell over when I saw a more noticeable scute. Is she still considered a baby (what other word?) at this point? I was wondering if it was a normal developing one for her age (we were told she was about 6 months when we got her so...

To change or not to change.

We all know how some animals thrive best when their environment is constantly changing, it helps them develop and mature etc We also know that some animals do not welcome change. Are tortoises one of those animals that do or do not like change? I would think they would to some degree since...

    Pyramiding then & now

So I'm personally convinced Echo looks like she's still pyramiding BUT I don't know. I'm not sure if it's just her growing and there for the pyramiding looks more defined or what. Take a look at this picture, on the left is her at the pet store when we bought her back in late May early June. She...

    Types of cactus

We live in south Florida and on most of the old properties here cactus is growing out of control. Well the type I have looks like the one in the first picture here with the pink flower, although I've never noticed a bloom. It's a million years old (give or take) so possibly tough, but is it a...

    Humidifier question

So today I went up to Target with the mindset of buying a humidifier for Echo yet came home with nothin :( I was looking at warm mist ones yet can't figure out how to attach hosing to them since they aren't nozzled like the cool mist ones I've seen. I'm hesitant on using a cool one even under...
