She ate a piece of wood.

The soaks are something I've already been doing- she gets about a half hour in a warm water soak every other day, but I can definitely make it every day. I supplement with calcium powder 2-3 times a week, should I stop doing that if I get the miner-all? She gets supervised outside time about...

She ate a piece of wood.

Hey all, just had a quick question and wanted to run it by someone more experienced than I. My CDT just pooped a piece of wood almost 1" long and 1/3" wide. For reference, her shell size is roughly 8-9" long and she was rescued and registered just last year. She has some shell damage due to...

    Advice please?

I knew this day would come but it's coming at the worst possible time xD My rescue CDT, Bogey (aka. "Bug") has outgrown her enclosure. Currently she resides indoors in a large cement mixing tub with a hide box & water bowl. We had a real fiasco with coconut coir earlier this year (we got a...

For some reason I thought this was going to be related to Green Eggs and Ham ... ;)

    Mazuri?

Basically, Mazuri is a formulated tortoise food that contains a variety of grasses, minerals, and nutrients, if I'm not mistaken. It's by no means required feeding and while I think it's a great product, I still feed my tort a 50/50 mix of Mazuri and mixed dark greens because there's no...

    new growth or infection?

Sorry, I'm probably being a little paranoid- I've only had Bogey since we rescued her last year so I'm new at this. Is this just a lot of new growth or should I be worried about the pinkness on the edges? She's a CDT, unknown age, about 6 1/2" - 7" long and has some pyramiding ( eems to be...

    Eating Rocks

I've had this happen with my CDT as well, though since I started supplementing her with more calcium it doesn't seem to happen much anymore. I believe it's definitely related to something she was missing in her diet, especially since she has some MBD issues from her previous owner.

    A couple of ID questions.

Chris, we've got thousands of those daisies in the canyon in front of our place too, I'm starting to think it's a San Diego thing? I've never seen so many before- but from what I've read, daisies are toxic, or at least non-edible, though I'd have to have somebody verify that.

Do you like it when people call your tortoise a turtle?

Meh, I don't care. Sure, it bugs the nitpicky side of me a little bit, but honestly I just think it's cool that people take an interest at all. I'm glad to explain more about Bogey, how I got her and what I'm doing to help her, but "turtle/tortoise" is not a big deal to me, especially...

Any cool tortoise/reptile stuff in Southern California?

I'd definitely recommend Pet Kingdom, my mom and I stumbled over them a few weeks ago and I can't believe there's such an awesome locally owned pet store not even ten minutes from me xD They had some really lovely Radiateds- I spent a while watching them have dinner, plus they had a bunch of...

    Help! I've Inherited a Tortoise!

Hello and welcome! :) I'm sort of new as well but I just had to pop in and say that your Matilda is a real beauty. Best wishes, and I hope you enjoy the forums- I've learned so much around here. ^^

    Missing Russian Tortoise Lakeway TX

You may have already thought of this, but be sure to check Craigslist and other local listings, even the newspaper or Reader ads. I've seen 'Found Tortoise' ads in all of these.

Question about shell care in CDT

@Tom: Alright, I'll just keep an eye out for anything strange then. Thanks. @Laura: Yeah, she walks well and doesn't seem to have any difficulty. She's not as fast as some of the turtles and tortoises I've seen (like that youtube video with the running tortoise, lol), but she keeps a pretty...

Question about shell care in CDT

@ascott: Thanks! :) She's a cutie, with a big personality for being so tiny. xD She's my first tortoise and I never realized they were such characters. Our yard is pretty much just dirt and weeds at the moment (she's been helping us with those, lol- she takes weed duty very seriously) and...

Question about shell care in CDT

I have a rescued CDT named Bogey- we found her late last summer and I've made a few posts around here to chat or ask questions. Here's a pic of the very moment we found her- it's super blurry because it's from my cellphone camera but you can see the pyramiding as well as her shell issues: Her...
