I'm sure this is much too late but if it happens again, your RES will be just fine for a few days without light, high heat, etc. I would have just taken them out of the water and kennelled them in a dog kennel. Then every day just put them in warmish water to rehydrate. Just don't feed til you...
I have a larger RES and I use a Fluval 406 in a 75gal tank. It works really well and can keep up to the poo volumes they have. I highly recommend them for sliders. If you do decide to feed in-tank tho, just watch your food quantities. Remove any excess food after about 5-10 minutes, to avoid it...
I have had sliders for coming on 19 years. I would say they 'love' me... to feed them. I think they can take you, or leave you. But that's okay with me. I still love mine and don't mind that mine hiss and snap at me when I take them out of the tank to either let run around the house or kennel...
You can't buy torts from outside Canada, its illegal for the most part, to ship them here. Try a pet store locally, a local breeder, or online. Lots of choices available.
Thank you for the information. Probably best to keep them apart I suppose. It's not a huge deal, they've been apart since I got the, both so well just carry on as is.
Her water dish is a fair size, for her. I just measured her and she's 4.5" long by 3" wide. The dish measures 6" x 8". I have it lengthways in there so she has plenty of room to get around it. Plus she's outside in an enclosure a fair bit. I kind of didn't think I could keep them together...
That's devastating. :( I don't know what I would do if one of my my pets died from anything other than old age. I had a snake die at 22 years old last year, and honestly I still tear up over him, I miss him so much. I'm so sorry for your loss. You can only hope a lesson was learned by someone...
I have a 10-12 year old female 3-toed that I had to take in because she was not getting cared for very well. Of which i don't mind because i can give her a healthy environment. But I also have a 1 (ish)-yr old Eastern Box turtle in another enclosure. He's only about 1.5" long and she's about...
Yes. Isn't that insane? Amazes me, the crap some people feed their pets. She's dong better tho, not as dry looking and I THINK she ate some of the cat food mixture I put in there the other day. She turded today when I bathed her so I think she's feeling better. :). Thank you everyone for the...
I bought some ProPlan Chicken cat food and put a bit in there. I also mixed up some squash and carrots in a small bowl and put it in with her. She actually sniffed the cat food (it super smelly, yuck) and then went to hide again. So maybe I'll keep offering her things.
I think you're right...
I live in Alberta, Canada. If you think it's tough getting it there, try from up here... Haha. I ended up paying $40 for a 25lb bag and then paid a additional $40 for shipping. I got it for my sulcata and the real kick in the teeth is, he doesn't care for it. I have to hide it in other food...
So, good news! I took "Emma" to the vet today. He wasn't near as concerned about her as I've been. He said she for sure has not had a good life and was extremely dry. The hole in her bottom shell was old and he didn't think it needed treatment. He said I pretty much had to let that heal over...
Well I tried a few things today to feed her but no luck. Wasn't able to find any nightcrawlers tho at any pet stores. I'll try a fishing store this week.
I gave her 2 soakings and will try again tomorrow. Hoping the reptile vet can squeeze her in tomorrow too. She definitely seemed more alert...
Okay great. After her soak I will try the worms I have and see what sort of meal I can put together for her. I don't have any cat or dog food tho. Maybe mushed up Mazuri? Will she take that?

All I have at home now are giant mealworms and waxworms that I feed to the gecko. Will those be suitable or do you think the nightcrawlers (is that the same as an earthworm?) are a better choice? I'm sure I can get some at the pet store although I've never seen them there.
Also, when I held...
So I had to 'adopt' this poor 3-toed box turtle from people who apparently got it from owners who did not look after her. They said she was raised in a small shoe box and was fed pizza and bread. I got her today and she is in quite a state. Her beak is about 1/4- 1/2" inch below her bottom jaw...
