So it's been a long time since I posted so hi everyone :-D recently moved into our own home so thought I would update you with the new homes for the tortoises.
My Hermanns is now 7 and still have him set up in an open plan way using towels as a base rather than soil/coir and he's doing really...
I never would have thought a tortoise would prefer the comfy life...
but this one does!
although Lola still prefers the proper tortoise life
but I guess Horace did start the year with his head in a shoe....
sometimes I really do wonder...lol x x
so Horace liked his towel and light setup so much we gave him his own room- under the stairs.
he can go outside whenever he wants if the weather is ok as the door is pretty much opposite and we can shut him in whenever we need to...
no drafts because its like an alcove cupboard thingy and...
Really dumb question, but im a little confused.
We got a MVB for horace my 5/6 yr old hermanns and set it all up like the instructions said, 80cm/ 30 inches away from the floor. it just isnt getting the temps warm enough.
should i lower the light? will this change the UVB levels? and will it...
Hi :)
so its getting nearer winter and we dont plan on hibernating lola who also currently has a little eye issue atm :( but we also dont want her missing out on play time over the winter, though obviously she might not be as active anyway, so we decided to extend.... any suggestions would be...
So yeah some of you may have seen the posts about our inactive tort Lola. In the last few weeks the difference has been dramatic. She is now as alert and active in her house as she is outside. This is a pic of the set up.
The white edges you can see are ice cream tubs my gf made into a tunnel...
My male hermanns has learnt how to climb back inside the house when he is outdoors and walks straight into a wooden floored kitchen. I think he thinks its a game, as soon as we put him out, he comes right back in. So as we cant get a heat source outside atm, we placed a towel with a basking...
My russian tortoise keeps burrowing down into her soil as far as she can go and then she will just move around her house but underneath the soil, like a tunnel. Her head will just appear somewhere else lol.
She does this all day and doesnt really bother moving around too much on the surface...
Hey this is just a random question, does anyone else find their tortoise can seem "moody" sometimes???
Today I went into the room the tort tables are and as I had a few things to do, I didnt go over to them like I usually do to take them for a soak and to their outdoor area, I simply carried on...
Worried about Lola
Hi just recently we have noticed a change in our russian tortoise Lola's behaviour. She seems to sleep quite alot and only really comes out for food and a little wander then goes right back to digging in her soil under the heatlamp. I would have thought that this might be...
Well as some of you know, I have recently been researching the possibility of keeping a tortoise outside on a concrete area, as my whole yard is miserable grey concrete. I received very helpful answers from expereinced tort owners on this forum, and after also getting in touch with a couple of...
does anybody have any ideas about concrete patio spacing being used for a tortoise enclosure?? we are using our entire space for our hermanns, have a greenhouse/coldframe and a substrate area for him but the rest is concrete, is this ok for him??
we also made a smaller area for our horsefield...
Hey
Our little horsefield outgrew her home so today we have got her a new indoor house setup until we can get both our torts outside in the sun.
All suggestions are welcome :)

Hi
My five yr old hermanns has limited indoor space and so I want to provide my whole outdoor space for him to use as his tortoise area in the warmer months.
This may be an issue as we dont have a garden only quite a large yard, which is south facing and gently sloping. My idea is to provide...
Hi Im new to using forums and have looked around a couple of the others giving advice and sharing ideas about torts and this one seemed to be the most friendly and helpful :)
I have a 5yr old male Hermanns tort called Horace and a young horsefield (im not too sure of the age but roughly 12-18...
