What are some symptoms of dehydration? He is urinating and his urates are phlegmy like, sometimes a little chalky. Was curious because his eyes are a little sunken in? He is a sub-adult/adult Russian.
I also have a baby tortoise around 6 months old and I havent seen any white urates being...
So I got a baby zagros mountain Greek the other week. I have him in an open toe box, very roomy for his size. I am having trouble keeping the humidity level up around 70-80%. I currently keep it covered with a sheet of plastic, occasionally fully covered (lately mostly at night) or half to two...
I am in the process of getting a baby zagros mountain Greek. Any helpful info from other Greek hatchling owners would be grateful. Anyone that might have some good info on the zagros mountain Greeks would also be helpful.
Also I would like to keep him in my previous tort box that I had my...
I know a guy in town that is wanting to sell his sulcata tortoise. He is almost 40lbs. He looks a little dry and has a small indent near his rear. No pyramiding. Maybe a little small for his age/size. Looking to sell him for $550.
Wow!! I surprised to hear of a guy in my town, lil ol Sebring Ohio, that has a sulcata tortoise. He's 40 pounds, and a big guy. He's asking $550 for him, but way outta my price league. But I do get the pleasure of going over there and seeing it, in person, to touch it. I am super pumped up about...
I have a Russian tort and was wondering if feeding him dandelions/greens, weeds, flowers, weed leaves, grass from the yard is just as good as grocery greens daily?
What would be a good, cheap substrate for small outdoor enclosure? Potting soil, plain dirt, cypress mulch? And does everyone keep their outdoor enclosures covered during the day?
Was just curious as to what temps (substrate) should be? I've got a digital thermo and have tested areas all over. Under the basking light it stays about 95-100 and the cooler side is a lil over 70. And I've checked other areas around and they don't get much higher than 75. It's an open top...
Well caught my Russian tort doing some exploratory climbing the other day.
Put the flower pots there so he couldn't get behind the hid box, he got stuck a few times behind it and my girlfriend had to give him a helping hand.
So I've noticed that my Russians plastron has been peeling, started of kinda small an has spread and got bigger.
Now there's a red spot at the front underneath where his head/neck would be. Been there for a lol over a week. Was keeping an eye on it, hasn't seemed to get worse, but bot better...
Here is my refurbished tort box for my Russian.
- mix of coconut coir, repti-bark, Cyprus mulch, and a bit of top soil in the hides
- a small log hide on the cool side, a large box on the heated side. Stays burrowed a lot of the time.
- a 150W basking light and rock underneath it, and a 10 UVB...
I just got a Russian tort a few days ago from my sister. I know that they like to burrow a lot during the hotter hours of the day, but he's usually burrowed from the time I get home from work (2:30) till later in the day (8:30-10:30).
Sometimes he will only come out from there if I pull him...
Well I'm new to this forum, but have encountered others like it. I just got a Russian Tortoise that is probably a juvenile male I believe. I have an aquarium set up for him now but plan on making some sort of table for him. He has a bit of rot on his plastron that I have to take care of. Any...
