So we took an elderly tortoise to the vets today with a purple tongue which is a sign of mouthrot. The inexperienced vet yanked Charlie's head from out of his shell incorrectly and looked in his mouth as we were going to get his beak trimmed as it is overgrown..... She said it was fine.... >:(...

I agree :) the newspaper is just temporary until I get a bottom for the pen, as I made it myself and haven't got the right wood for the bottom. But when I do make a bottom she will have deep substrate. I use monkfield tortoise sand and monkfield pellets :) what substrate do you use for your torts?

Thanks, she's got a much bigger enclosure now, it doesn't look that big but it's 200x60cm! :)

Yea it fine it's just deformed which in no way makes it suffer or lowers its quality of life, it just gives the tortoises character :)
