    Filing beak?

Thank you for the input! When he eats lettuce, it's only romaine. He gets very small amounts of kale, and sometimes a bit of brussel sprouts since I personally eat them a lot. He gets small amount of carrots sometimes, and cucumbers are a favorite snack but very rare. When I have any tort safe...

    Filing beak?

I don't know if I should file my torts beak. He's a male adult Greek, exact age is unknown as he was released by a previous owner. What I do know is that he's been about the same size for 8 years. I'm new to keeping a tort, I've had him for less than a year. He eats from a terracotta plate with...

    JBL microcalcium

I've tried that, but he hates the taste. I think it's called cuttlebone in some places? Either way he hates it and always buries it.

    JBL microcalcium

Thank you so much. Yes, I'm planning on giving it once every two or three days. Right now I'm tricking him into taking a bite of the sepia bone every two or three days but he's always grumpy after... Thanks again for the comment!

Just Recieved Tortoise from Friend and Need Advice

I would personally recommend that you cover the transparent side. The tort will most likely try to escape all day and that makes a lot of noise. I would recommend a big water dish that can also be used for soaking. Good luck on this very exciting adventure!

    JBL microcalcium

Hello, have any of you tried the JBL brand calcium for your torts and do you recommend it? I've tried sepia bone but my little guy refuses to eat it, even if I crush it and put on his food. I've heard good things about the JBL calcium but only from people with lizards. On the website it says...

Adopted tort keeps trying to escape.

(I also made a bit of an error, his enclosure is 1,8x2 meters)

Adopted tort keeps trying to escape.

Yes, I agree. I'm looking into upgrading his enclosure, I'm thinking of building a tortoise table. He has a smaller enclosure since he was a rescue, so I put him in what I had at home. His previous home had him in a enclosure that was 0.5x0.5 meters. I have added a second floor / platform to try...

Adopted tort keeps trying to escape.

I have a 2x1 meter enclosure, and he has a heatlamp with uvb on 30 watts, and that's all the lighting he has right now since I live in a country where it's bright outside from early in the morning to very late. He has bark as a substrate and he has a cool hide and a warm hide plus a middle hide...

Adopted tort keeps trying to escape.

I adopted a fully grown Greek male a couple of months ago. He's never been able to look outside of his current enclosure, but since his previous owners just let him walk around in the house, he knows that there's an outside world. He spends all of his days trying to look our of the enclosure...

Is there a substrate with no smell??

I love bark as a substrate. It does smell a tiny bit but it's not a bad smell, just an earthy smell. There's great threads on here with different bark suggestions.

    Noisy tort

So I have a greek tort, and he's great! But he does make some sounds every now and again. He's completely quiet when breathing, but sometimes he can do a little sigh if he bumps into things or if he thinks I haven't given him nice food. He loves to sit in my lap and when he does he makes a...

    Orchid Bark

Hello! I have an adult Greek male and I use bark for him So honestly, I would recommend getting some from a flower shop. Just make sure nothing is added to it. I got a big bag of 40L for 4 bucks, it's perfect. As long as the pieces are big and there's nothing added, you can't really go wrong...
