Perhaps we shouldn't jump so quick to attack. She is obviously trying to find out just what she can do to help the little one. As great advice has been given she can only do what she can afford. We also don't know where the tortoise came from and if she could even return it etc.

Thank you all for your insite.
I have called the other Herp society located about 2 hours away, and was informed that this is not how the practice should be handled in anyway (of course). They told me there was really nothing they themselves could do (other than report aswell), so I took...
A little off topic, but I love it when I can catch it with a shovel before it hits the ground :).
I think that is as close to potty training as we will ever get.
I would suggest a yearling.
While hatchlings can be very rewarding, they are much more fragile and can turn bad quickly.
While I'm sure you know every tortoise is at risk, hatchlings are much more vulnerable.
Just got home from the vet a bit ago.
His jaw seemed to have "popped out of alignment" as the vet put it. He completely re-set the jaw/beak and had to do some trimming to help it stay in alignment.
Cam- It was a combination of trauma and poor husbandry in his previous enviornment. I...
Thanks.
He is in pain and stressed, I can tell. I soaked him this morning and he just sat there; eyes closed. I'm calling the vet to see if I can get him in sooner.
Keep your fingers crossed that he makes it.
I have a 6 month old leopard that somehow dislocated his jaw while I wasn't home. Maybe climbed over his cage mate and flipped over, then dislocated it trying to get back over?
Anyways, going to the vet tomorrow but was wondering if anyone else has ever had this happen. He looks like he now...
Thanks for your input everyone.
Unfortunatly he is the president, and it does say they are non-profit on their homepage.
It is so unfortunate that this is occuring, I'll see what I can do..
I'll keep you all updated.
I know that there are a lot of "rescues" out there that take in torts and don't re-home them. To be quite honest, I'm fine with that if it means less stress for the torts. However, I ventured over to my local Herpetological Society a few months ago to take a look at what they had to offer and...
I house all my hatchling in guinea pig/rabbit cages with the solid bottom for a while, until they can go outside full time. I do this for easy transport to the backyard for some time in the sun. Just add the wire whenever you take them outside and it is nearly preditor-proof.
