That would be awesome! I'm in Lee County, just across the state from you.

Need advice for indoor tortoise enclosure for Morla

A MISTKING setup, or something similar, is exactly what I'm thinking. With some plastic around the enclosure and the plants I'm hoping it'll work.

These would be perfect! I'll have to look for your review so I can put them on my Morla wish list.

Need advice for indoor tortoise enclosure for Morla

Red foots are tropical tortoises from South America so Michigan is most definitely NOT her natural environment, although where we live now in SW Florida is pretty close. She doesn't brumate. I would never let her wander; the main reason being I have cats and dogs.

Need advice for indoor tortoise enclosure for Morla

Whatever house we get will have a basement which is where we'll put her. Michigan folks use our basements as our main living room, too, so she'll be part of the house and not somewhere out of the way. We plan on building a raised tortoise table about 8' wide by 12' long with a pond liner and...

Need advice for indoor tortoise enclosure for Morla

I figure we're not the only ones that have a red foot in a cold climate which is why I was hoping to see what other people do. And it HAS to be done because we'll do what it takes to make sure she's healthy and happy even if she can't live outside year round.

Need advice for indoor tortoise enclosure for Morla

I've looked around on the boards but I haven't really found anything. Anyway, we found out that we'll be moving back to MI in the next year, which obviously has a much different climate than here in SW Florida. This means she'll spend several months of the year inside where right now she...

Need advice on building a heated night box for SW Florida

With the cost of plywood these days it'd certainly be cheaper to pick up a compost bin but I was actually looking on HD's website and couldn't find the one you have. Also, you have just a CHE hanging in each of your night boxes but I keep getting told that's a bad idea. Are yours just raised...

Need advice on building a heated night box for SW Florida

Yeah, after I posted that last I started thinking about how badly and quickly untreated wood breaks down here. I'm not going to waste my time and money not using pressure treated. For the roof, I'll either go with metal or see if the roofers that are coming in the next week or so will leave...

Need advice on building a heated night box for SW Florida

Yeah, her yard is 6'x10' right now but with all the plants and such it just seems like she doesn't have enough room so we're going to add another eight feet making it 6'x18'. I'd like to add another few feet to the 6' side but I just don't have a good way to do it without annoying my landlord...

Need advice on building a heated night box for SW Florida

Oh goodness! I'm glad I have a little one. That's a huge house and those are huge torts! They look really good, too! I guess you never have problems with bullying even with the difference in sizes? All the rain we get here for half the year is exactly why I'm leaning towards pressure...

Need advice on building a heated night box for SW Florida

I forgot to mention that she's a redfoot. I thought I had put that in there but clearly, I didn't. Duh. OK, I can see adding insulation panels inside and it won't up the cost that much based on a quick search. I've seen the build you linked but, to me, it seemed a bit overkill for my area...

Need advice on building a heated night box for SW Florida

First, let me say I did do a search before posting this but I can't find any answers to my specific area; everything is for well insulated night boxes. Or for multiple torts or much larger torts. So, we've had Morla for about 2.5 years now (she's 4) and she lives outside 99% of the time but...

Morla says, "Hi!" from SW Florida

Hey everyone! I've been lurking here for about six or seven months and finally decided to post. I've learned a ton since then from this board and now I want to introduce Morla. We got her when she was 1.5 years old from one of my daughter's co-workers. We know her age and likely sex because...
