New indoor enclosure, I’m so pleased!

Hello everyone! I spent the day working on my Russian tortoise’s new indoor enclosure. I still need to lower the light fixture and hang the UVB light, but I am so pleased and thrilled with how it came out. I lined the bottom with pond liner, the sides with laminate tiles. This is a 6’x3’...

    Russian tortoise—Pakistan locale?

Hello, I’m going to be taking in a male Russian tortoise in a few days and wanted to confirm that he is a Russian. Based on what I’ve found online, he looks like a Russian tortoise - Pakistan locale (Testudo horsefieldii horsefieldii). I could be wrong, I was just going based off of photos I...

    Let's see your Sulcata

Yes, I’m a newbie and am so grateful for this forum and this thread. Lots of inspiration and great guidance. My 8 month old sulcata has so much spunk and personality already, I know she’ll be just as mischievous as an adult. Look forward to when she is full grown & roaming my yard.

I just lit my gas range with a lighter, but yes, the starter did not work without the power on.

    Our Power is Out ?

Good luck! I’m in texas too and in a similar boat, so far we’ve just had rolling outages. Enclosure has dipped down to 70, then power kicks on for 30 min. If it’s out for more than an hour I plan to drive my sulcata baby to someone’s house that does have power.

Taking in a male Russian, how does his plastron look?

Hello! I’ll be taking in a male Russian who is reportedly 7 years old. Poor guy has been fed exclusively Romain lettuce. While he is isolated from my other torts, I will do some wellness checks on him. Do you guys recommend deworming any new incoming torts? Or only if there are worms verified...

Adopting a Russian next week! Does he need a beak trim?

I think I will have the vet do it and hopefully with a better diet and slate/terra cotta dish I can avoid getting it trimmed again. Yes, the vet is very experienced with tortoises. I reached out to my local tortoise/turtle rescue and they recommended him. He’s an hour from where I live, but...

Adopting a Russian next week! Does he need a beak trim?

Hello! I’m rescuing a Russian tortoise next week & would appreciate a little advice. Does he need a beak trim? I apologize for the poor quality photo, it’s all I have. I have a vet appointment scheduled for him to get his beak trimmed right after I pick him up, but if it is not necessary or too...

Slight grittiness in uric acid waste

Thank you! I have the care sheet printed and highlighted. I’ve already implemented a lot of the suggestions. My entire enclosure was re-made. I ordered some dried herbs from Kapidolo farms. She currently has two water saucers. I sprayed her already moist food today with a little extra water...

Slight grittiness in uric acid waste

The tortoise is a sulcata, ~ 7 months old, around 4-5 inches long. I have had the tortoise since August. I soak her every single morning. Good to know that it isn't from the diet, I've been trying really hard to feed it well. Any tips, or suggestions?

Slight grittiness in uric acid waste

Hello! I've read up on some of the old threads on uric acid, causes, ideas, diet, hydration, etc. but still have questions. I have noticed the passed two times my tortoise has passed uric acid, it has been slightly gritty. I would say she passes this once a week. I have been researching some...
