Hi everyone,
I just thought I’d post a Yoshi’s update!
He is back to full health: he comes up to say hello, is trashing his crib on a regular basis, and throws himself into his food every chance he gets. He also is back to his usual nosey self, and as soon as he hears anything at all, he’s...
Yoshi update!
He has been eating, and is in a nice rhythm of sunbathing and snoozing. It’s such a relief to see him showing interest in food again. The only thing is… he’s not showing an interest in much else!
He doesn’t want to play, and if he sees me he is in full flight mode. Honestly it’s...
@Alex and the Redfoot @TechnoCheese and @Cathie G thank you so much for your kind birthday wishes! 🥰 I also call it Yoshi’s hatchday too, because he was a beautiful birthday surprise for me three years ago. Also, your advice as ever is perfect. Yoshi is still not embracing the normal happy...
Hi everyone, I just wanted to check something! What would be the ideal distance between tortoise and basking bulb? It’s 100 watts. He’s only eating dandelions, will hold off for days until he gets them, and spends very little time outside his cave. I just want to cover all aspects of his...
Yes! I made sure to follow up with the vet to make sure all the stones had passed. He had a X-ray to confirm. At that stage, because he wasn’t eating, the vet also gave him an injection of antibiotics. Poor little Yoshi wasn’t too happy! So he’s definitely had a lot of stress. 💔
Hi everyone!
Just wanted to ask a quick question: Yoshi my tortoise has been slowly recovering since he ate three stones (all now digested). He has had a few vet visits and is now a bit annoyed at me (for obvious reasons!). He has started eating, but his habits are odd. He hasn’t had two...
Hi everyone!
Me again! @wellington and @Cathie G, I have two questions if you don’t mind!
1. I have a 100w bulb for basking, but I’m concerned it may be too hot. Would you recommend that, or a 75w bulb? I have both and can change if necessary!
2. I got a new thermometer set up, but I’m just...
Thank you so much @Cathie G for your kindness! ✨It means so much, especially when you’re going through a worrying time 😊 would you happen to know how long it could possibly take for Yoshi to recover? I’m just trying to get the balance of being proactive while also giving him the time he needs to...
Hi everyone,
So sorry - I feel like I’m constantly asking questions!
How long does it usually take for a tortoise to recover from a sickness/injury just as this? I am a tortoise mum for three years, and he is my first reptile. I’m just not used to an animal not eating for this length of time...
Also follow up question to my previous post: I want to get him an even larger space because he has already outgrown his enclosure. The only thing is, he’s 3 and I live in Ireland, so he may now be ready for a table top yet.
If I was getting a custom made vivarium , how what size should I go...
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some new vivarium layout ideas for my tortoise who hasn’t been too well lately. I’m hoping the new space will get him investigating! Any suggestions for how to decorate a large vivarium that will keep him active?
Thank you! 🐢
Another update!
As recommended, I gave Yoshi warm baths every day with the water from boiled pumpkin and butternut squash. Yesterday, he pooped and today, when I took him to the vet, the last stone from his tummy was gone! The only thing is that his appetite still hasn’t returned. In fact, he’s...
Hi everyone,
Just sending another update!
I’ve been giving Yoshi nice warm soaks but unfortunately still no sign of toileting yet; he’s also showing absolutely no interest in food. I have just started to boil butternut squash and pumpkin and then, when the water has cooled, bathe him in that...
Thank you both so much. Honestly, you have all been so kind to me, and are always filled with the best advice! He’s going to get a lovely extra long warm bath tomorrow 🥰
Hi everyone,
Just a little update on Yoshi. I took him to the vet because he just wasn’t himself. It turns out he had ate three stones, and they were stuck in his intestine. To say I am devastated is an understatement! I was so sure I had watched him carefully in the garden, but obviously he...
Hi @wellington and @PollyAda. Thanks so much for your advice. It’s a large vivarium (got it built especially) and usually Yoshi is quite happy to totter about and knock things over. The temperature in the vivarium seems to be regulated now and our temperatures are starting to drop here in...
