I was for the first week and a half. I definitely went overboard at first before letting up a bit, but that's why I was worried about shell rot. For the past week or two, the substrate should be fine now / just damp.

Thank you for sharing all this information! It's helpful; I will try and look more into it to see if it's good for tortoises or not. It is a really pretty flower, and there are a ton of them near me! There's a big area by the water where they grow, and it's really nice either way.
