    Sulcata?

Hi, my little sisters friend found this hatchling tortoise and thought it was a gopher tortoise. Just confirming that it's a sulcata. Looks like one to me based off the scute pattern and spikes on the front legs. Thanks!

    Hatchling with URI???

Hi everyone, I recently rescued a hatchling yellow bellied slider. Someone had found it in an apartment that was getting renovated and was giving it away on Facebook. I have experience with adults, but I have never had one this small or with a URI. His right eye is shut and he does gape a...

    Photo shoot for the torts!

A local pet photographer that did some amazing pictures of my 2 border collies, offered to do a free photo shoot for my torts a couple months ago (just because they are interesting and it would expand her portfolio)and she sent me a few to show me how they turned out! Boy am I pleased! She did...

    Heater for winter housing?

I have an approx. 50 lb Sulcata that ended up staying in my home last winter because i just couldn't get his box warm enough. I've redesigned the box this year similar to Tom's designs and i am just wondering where y'all have found the best deals on the oil filled heaters? And which brand/style...

    Kitten overload!

So I've gone a bit crazy with rescuing cats... I took in a litter of 4 that I found at my work a couple weeks ago. I then took in a cat that was pregnant that has now given birth to 4 more adorable little fur balls. I'm not usually a cat person, bit I can't let them suffer either. Not to mention...

    Cheap grass baler.

I saw the tread that someone made when they made their own grass baler. I tried to find some blueprints online, but couldn't. I did find something very simple and inexpensive! Take a cardboard box, a piece of plywood cut to the size of the opening of the box and string! It works really well.

    A visit from Bowser

I went outside long enough to turn the hose off (left the door open) and I turned around and Bowser, my 50+ lb tortoise was going through my back door. He nonchalantly walked through the dining room and into the living room where everyone was sitting and just hung out with us. I have him a...

    Winter shelter for large sully.

I have an approx. 50lb sully that stayed in my room last winter because I didn't have time to build him a shelter. If anyone has any suggestions on what would do well for him. I'm looking for anything low budget... I just took on 2 stray kittens and am in the middle of getting their shots and...

Bowser's first night in the house.

Well, tonight is the first really cold night we've had here in SE Georgia. checked the temps in bowser's outside house and its only going up to 62 in his house. :( So he's spending the night in the house. (Thank God I have large dogs. Large dogs = large crates) Got him set up in the largest dog...

What type/wattage bulb to use for large tort outside for winter?

I would just like to know what kind of bulb and what wattage everyone uses for their big guys outside during winter. I have a 100 w heat (red) bulb right now, but I feel like it's not keeping him warm enough.

How to get tort out of his burrow.

My 35 lb sulcata, Bowser, has dug a sizable burrow and I need him to come out so I can cover it for winter. Does anyone know a way to entice a sully out? It wouldn't bother me so much, but its going pretty low this week and he needs to be in his heated house. I know he's not dead in there...

    Bowser's Burrow

For the past week Bowser has had a small (and oh do I mean small) burrow. It was just big enough for about half of him to fit in. Well, I came home from work today and went outside to check on him and give him a snack. All I saw was a good sized pile of freshly dug up dirt. I looked where his...

    Heat during a power outage?

I am the proud owner of 2 sulcatas. I have Chomper who is about a year old and still inside, I also have Bowser, who I think is about 10-20 years old and lives outside. I live in southeastern GA and we've been getting hit with some pretty bad storms for the past week. I just wanted to know what...

    These poor torts!

I just came across this craigslist ad and I am shocked that they call these torts "healthy". I would take them in, but I neither the funds nor the space for 2 more sulcatas. I already have a 34 lb male and a baby. :( If anyone near the area can afford to save these babies please do...

    Bowser update!

Well, I finally managed to get a weight and measurement on Bowser. I used the bucket method and it worked perfectly. He only weighs 34.4 lbs. He feels much heavier than that! I lift a 50lb bag of dog food every other week and he feels about that weight. XD His plastron is 17" long. He's...

How to weigh a large tortoise!?!

Attempted to weigh my new tortoise today and I feel like it was a complete failure. I used a household bathroom scale and set him on it. The first problem I ran into was him trying to walk off. So I put my hand in front of his face, it seemed to slow him down for a second. But the scale only...
