This guy/girl is doing fantastic! I received the tortoise yesterday, and it is from Tom's recent hatch of Sudans. It is set up in a 6 foot by 3 foot greenhouse with all of the neccisary supplies listed in Tom's care sheet for sulcata tortoises. Ducky's in a soak at the moment.
Looking forward...
Has anyone here ever made any purchases from Balland's or know anything about them?
I know Richard Fife sold his ivory line to them, so I was curious to see if anyone had any experience with them, as I am considering making a deposit on their August/September hatch of ivories.
I have already...
So,
I have a 6 x 8 greenhouse for my young sulcata tortoise. It has CHE bulbs, stays humid, and at a steady temperature because of the three different thermostats combined with the CHE bulbs. There is also a UVB strip light.
However, as you know, the edges of greenhouses aren't very warm when...
I cannot figure out the reasoning behind this tortoise's strange anal scutes. I got the tortoise back in July, and it has since doubled in size. I am of course keeping high humidity with daily soaks and everything else. The scutes were like this when I got the tortoise. From what I understand...
I know that it is pretty much impossible to sex sulacatas this young, but isn't there a distinct difference between the two and the one?
Could the difference be because the larger two were started hot and dry? (Not by me ) The small one was started just right.
Also, the small one has a strong...
I was thinking of designs for my sulcata's enclosure. I do not need to use a closed chamber as I can keep the whole room at a good ambient temperature and humidity. At first, I was thinking about building a plywood table that is 8' x 8'. If I did that, I would the spend the most money on...
This is NOT my tortoise, but one that I saw on Craigslist. I was wondering if anyone in that area was interested. I just feel bad for the little guy:(
Also, my neighbor is rehoming their a 3ish pound male sulcata tortoise.
Here is the russian tort link...
Is it normal for me to have time replace the soak like 3 times because he poops and pees sooo much!? ?
I just do not want him soaking in his own waste, and I do not want the soak to end early.
PS I caught him getting a BIG drink from his water dish this morning!
I have a neighbor who wants to rehome their 3lb male sulcata. I have three others of a smaller size that were rehomed to me. They of course are and would be separate until I can garuntee gender and size compatability. I have around 2,097 square feet for them. There are a lot of visual...
I learned that you should not keep two sulcatas, so I am going to add a third. The two I already have weigh about 130 grams, and the one I am getting is about 70 grams. The one I am getting is a sudanese, and the two I have are both Mali. Do you think there will be any issues with size?
This is his/her routine. I take Jethro Gibbs in the yard and garden to snack on clover, grasses, purslane, zucchini leaves, lettuce, dandelion and radish greens. After he is done with breakfast, he gets a 20 minute soak. Then he goes back into his enclosure for the middle part of the day. We...
Hi, I researched for about 4 months before getting a baby sulcata tortoise. I got them from someone on Craigslist. He seemed to know what he was talking about...he said that he breeds them and has 47 more available. He also said that many people make the mistake of giving them a water bowl in...
Does anyone know of keeping sulcatas in southwestern PA? I don't know if it would be possible if I provided a winter shelter with everything the tortoise needs. It would have lots of space in the spring/summer/early fall and be happy in those climates, but it gets so cold in the winter. Does...
