Baby box turtle fungus on shell won’t go away, help!

I know it’s not calcium build up since I tested for it, but it does seem to react to the fungal liquid. It just doesn’t want to stay gone! I bought some athletes foot cream today so I’ll see how it looks tomorrow. I had no idea fungus was so difficult… or whatever it is.

Baby box turtle fungus on shell won’t go away, help!

I have a baby boxy I hatched a few months ago. I have had several hatchlings in the past that all did well, but this is the first time I have ever seen a fungus grow on a shell before. My guess is that it came from some cheap craft store moss I bought and put in its container, which I have never...

Box turtle egg has dent on side, close to hatch date

Ok here they are! 3 baby turtles out of 4! One seems smaller than the other two, but they’re all perfect otherwise! Their shells look good, no unusual scutes, just tiny little miracles! As of today they’ve been moved into their new enclosure. Thank you all for this of you that shared your...

Box turtle egg has dent on side, close to hatch date

Ok.. I did it, because I knew in my heart it wasn’t alive. I opened the bad egg. Sure enough, it looks like it stopped developing just a few weeks ago. Not sure what could have happened. At least I know now, I can stop worrying about it and care for these 3 beautiful babies! I can’t wait to see...

Box turtle egg has dent on side, close to hatch date

I think you’re correct. I’m very happy with the 3 that made it!! I will post a picture of them all together when they are ready. I have heard some peoples stories of very ugly eggs hatching that were thought to be no-good… so I’ll give it a try!

Box turtle egg has dent on side, close to hatch date

Alrighty, the third baby has hatched! At 58 days! I’m not feeling confident at all about number 4…that one has lots of dents, and has the mold I’m trying to get under control. How will this Hollywood movie end? These two that recently hatched have yolk sacks to soak up. The first one’s sack was...

Box turtle egg has dent on side, close to hatch date

Jeff- Hollywood turtles ?? indeed they are good at suspense! A second turtle made its appearance during the night, it had burst its eggshell nearly in half! I tore off the piece of shell that was hanging on. So happy two have made it so far!! Now for the other two…. One of the two eggs left...

Eggciting indeed ?? I do have another baby that hatched from the same parents a year ago this month! So now she has a sibling! She turned out beautiful, showing more of the Eastern traits, with 4 toes. The father is Eastern, mother is Three-Toed.

Box turtle egg has dent on side, close to hatch date

Hi Zovick, just wanted to follow up! I can concur that temperature does appear to effect the duration of incubation. So far one baby hatched in just 54 days at 84 degrees. He/she is doing just fine, waiting for the others to begin pipping. At 80 degrees, I had hatchlings closer to 70 days...

Box turtle egg has dent on side, close to hatch date

As of today I’m still waiting for the other 3 eggs to begin hatching. The first one is still napping inside the eggshell and hasn’t emerged yet, but he’s got a little open window to breathe out of. I kinda had a feeling for the last several weeks that this particular baby would hatch first. It’s...

It’s happening!!! One of them is pipping now!! Eeeee!!! And it’s the one I long suspected would be first to hatch, also the first egg to show the dents. I will try to get some pictures, I’m so excited!!! Today is day 54!!

Box turtle egg has dent on side, close to hatch date

Hi Zovick! After adding more moisture, the egg dents did not change. I find it interesting that two eggs have dents, and two eggs do not. Also, the two that have dents, have them on the same side. Not sure why! But they all do seem to be fine. Still no sign of pipping that I can see, but today...

Box turtle egg has dent on side, close to hatch date

Hi Zovick, I followed your suggestion and added some moisture to help the humidity. I’m only suspecting they’re close to hatching based off some other sites I’ve read that said eggs can hatch at 45-55 days if incubated at 84 degrees. I’m curious if mine will follow suit! But yes, I’m used to it...

Box turtle egg has dent on side, close to hatch date

Hello! Yes I did add a bit more moisture, they all look fine. Several sites I have found mentioned that eggs incubated at 84 degrees have hatched between 45-55 days, which I also thought was early. My clutch last year took 70 days, but I had heat set to 80 degrees. So I’m interested to see how...
