    Eggs or no eggs?

Oh! Wonderful! I was under the impression that laying without being with a male was common. I've had them since they were 1.5yrs. They have not laid before. I have no reason for thinking they have eggs other than being told by a vet that when they get to around this age "they might". Your reply...

    Eggs or no eggs?

Thanks for your reply! Tort B has been pacing a lot and eating more than usual. Tort A is not eating much and is quite slow now. More what I would expect for this time of year. Neither have been in contact with another tortoise so definitely not been around a male.

    Eggs or no eggs?

I have two Greeks (6 yrs old) who do not share an enclosure. They have been separate for the past 4 years. Although unlikely at their age, I am worried about the possibility of eggs needing to be laid before hibernation. They are going for routine worm check and health check next week ahead of...

    Ridge along plastron

Thanks so much Tom. Thought I had broken him or her! Im using cococoir and I wouldn't say it's properly damp but it definitely isn't dry. I pour in a few litres of water once a week, more often if its looking dusty. It is much hotter than usual here at the moment and it is making the house...

    Ridge along plastron

I have noticed today that my tortoise has got a raised ridge in the centre of his/her plastron. I feel awful about this as poor tort has spent a lot of time inside this summer due to accidental spraying of weed killer in the outside enclosure and I'm wondering if being inside a lot of summer is...

White spots on shell. Shell rot or keratin stress?

Just updating this thread incase anyone has the same question/problem in the future... The white spots have now changed to swirly bits which I'm told are usually associated with growth. He is absolutely fine anyway and the odd bits seem to be fading. Thanks for the help.

White spots on shell. Shell rot or keratin stress?

Nope they definitely dont rub off. It looks like they are just below the surface. Like they have a transparent layer over the top.

White spots on shell. Shell rot or keratin stress?

My 4 year old meditteranean spur thigh has recently completed a successful 8 week hibernation. He has been eating well since 2 days after waking and he is hydrated and toileting as normal. Since waking he has developed some white spots all over his shell. The top pic was during his pre...

    Recurrent RI - Indian Star

Not my idea. I was horrified when the vet told me to nebulise disinfectant to my tort! I googled it before doing it and there is some info on it online. Seems to be used with other reptiles too. As for the dose... 0.4mls of f10 is diluted with 100mls normal saline and 5 mls of this solution is...

    Recurrent RI - Indian Star

Thanks so much Tom. I was using temps advised by the breeder... how frustrating. Humidifier now removed and temps increased. Will add another water dish and a few more plants and see how that goes with keeping humidity up. Really appreciate your help. Thank you.

    Recurrent RI - Indian Star

Hoping someone can help me here. My indian star hatchling (about 10 months) has only been with me 5 months and I'm pretty sure she has another RI. She was unwell when I got her and was treated for a respiratory infection with oral Baytril (5 doses) and f10 nebulised twice a day for 3 weeks...

Set-up concern : my baby greek ibera (8/9 weeks) falls asleep buried in his basking area.

I'm not an expert on whether it's safe or not but can offer some reassurance... my med spur thigh Stanley sleeps under the basking spot almost every night. Sometimes buried under the substrate, sometimes right on top. When hes not under the basking spot sleeping he is half way along the...

    SOS! Tortoise spitting water

Thanks Ruszian. I spoke to the vet that day and she had no idea what it could be, just advised to keep an eye on things. It hasnt actually happened again that I've seen. Possibly something he ate didnt agree with him?! He had plantain, stitchwort, lambs lettuce and nipplewort that morning. I've...

    SOS! Tortoise spitting water

Albert my med spur thigh has been spitting up water this morning. It's clear. No bubbles in it. No signs of respiratory struggle. Just like a blob of water falls out his mouth. It's happened 4 times in the past hour. He is 2.5 years old and lives in a tort table with his pal Stanley (both...

    Hungry hungry tortoise

For the past 5 days my Mediterranean Spur Thigh tortoise is eating like he's never been fed... When he is finished what I've given him he stomps around like an angry rhino until I go out and get him more weeds. He was checked for worms 4 weeks ago and all clear. He will be 3 in August and tips...
