    Hi, I'm in Concord CA USDA zone 9. One of my Marginatas has woken from hibernation, this is about two weeks earlier than normal. The weather has been very nice.

    Slowing Down for Winter

    My outdoor Marginatas are finally starting to slow down. Nights have been 35-40F with daytime temps still warm 70's Our Russians have been inactive about a month now.

    This summer I moved my 7 adult Marginatas into a larger yard that used to house my Russian breeding group. The area has a brick wall 3 bricks high, that the older Russians where never able to get over. Well my smallest female Marginata about 8", hasn't had any trouble getting over the wall...

    We had a 60F day today & 2 of my adult marginatas have awaken. Its only 2 weeks ahead of their usual wake up time. All of my Russians are still asleep.

    Eggs!

    I was walking around my Marginata yard this morning, & an area in the soil looked a little suspicious to me. I started digging around & sure enough there where 13 eggs in a shallow nest.     Marginatas

    Here's a new photo of my young breeding group. 2 male, 5 female The 5 females where hatched in 2002 & are from Richard Fife. The light colored male is the same age from Vic Herrick. The other male is a pet store tortoise with unknown heritage & a little pyramiding. Their sizes range from 7"-9"
