Bob is a 4 year old Sulcata, occasionally he discharges an off white pasty mass when he soaks. Not sure what it is or what may be causing it. Other wise he seems good.
Any Ideas?
The photo here is where I have 12 pound Bob now. 3x8 foot set up with radiant heat.
He’ll stay here for the Chicago winter then out side for summer. What temp and humidity level should I keep it at. Should the hide end of the unit be warmer or cooler than the open side? I have the floor at 88...
We live in the NW Chicago suburbs and have lost power from minutes to over a week. Have had whole house systems for past 14 years, Partial units the prior 30+ years.
He gets a large plate of mixed greens, vegetables and pellets. Will not touch grass. Turds are a passion, have to watch him close. He can find the most ancient load buried deep in the lawn.
enough to get out of the sun if outside in a large area. My 4500 gram Sulcata wanders endlessly but never heads for cover/shade. Is there a concern about over heat in summer sun? He has much cover to go to with water . Should I mist an area he roams?
He also eats ANY turd he finds, bird, deer...
You have know idea how big they get fast, I just ordered my first 25lb. bag of Mazuri LS.
He’s an eating then sleeping machine. Prepare constantly for larger quarters.
My neighborhood has pristine lawns which I must emulate. So, soon he will not be able to forage on the lawn. If I must feed him only purchased food, what should I get?
Now
Mazuri LS
Wheat grass
clover or alfalfa sprouts
Organic Dandelion
Hay
turnip and mustard greens.
Belgium endive

Thanks again, I’m feeding Mazuri LS. He’s soaked everyday. What type shrubs are safe to shade a large area. Whenever one see nature docs on torts they are in very barren surroundings. If he stays hidden outdoors how does one maintain a UV exposure level. Is there a place I can order
edibles...
Thanks for the info, He comes in every night. I wiill do the plywood walls. He grazes on weeds in the yard when Im out and watching him, will not touch the grass. I have to feed him foods I buy because of the neighborhood I live in, too many chemicals applied in the summer coming up.. He gets...
Below are pics of my torts enclosure. Its gotten warm in the Chicagoland are and would like input on his care when outside.
All input greatly appreciated.
Have had Bob over 2 years. He's gone from 47 grams to 2950 in that time. The issue is moisture level in his enclosure. At 80% it becomes unclean and buggy in a short time. Needs cleaning several times a month. Ive attempted a different course
of soaking him everyday for the last several
months...
The Timothy Hay he will eat in less than a week, never wet, bark substrate is wet on bottom of enclosure. I’m working on a larger home In attached heated garage that will be thermally controlled.
Sorry 1200 grams. Over 2 lbs. Heres my lighting. UV fluorescent, incandescent 60 watt for above warmth and thermostatically controlled radiant floor heat. Started getting sun light this summer in secure out door pen.
