This would make sense because she also has a ton of skin hanging off near the neck area (shedding) .
I'll keep an eye on it and update if needed, thanks :)
Directly under the lamp is +- 38°C(100F) but it quickly dissipates in a wide area of around 34°C(93F)
The 'cool' side' is around 22°C(71F) ( room temp)
The bulb in those fixtures are http://www.exo-terra.com/en/products/solar_glo.php 160W and a 50W extra heat lamp that I only turn on on cold days.
Hello,
I've had a female russian tortoise for the past 5 ish years and during her weekly washing i've noticed some discoloration on one of her scutes. This is deff some 'new' discoloration that she didn't have before.
I've recently 'upgraded' her enclosure to something with a little more...
Hello everyone,
Recently i've come across a block of chestnut wood (was meant as firewood). That I wanted to put inside the enclosure so my russian would have an extra obstacle to climb on.
Now I know chestnuts themselves are a big no-no and so are leaves, but what about a block of wood...
IS that u? thats hillarious :D
Omg what a cutie, He doesn't look mean at all :D
We used to have a tortoise that was about 2x her size (also russian) surely enough she would chase and bite her... had to separate.
I have two babies now, one 100Gr one 200Gr. The 100Gr one won't leave the 200...
Jesus christ thats insane... A sulcata is still different than this but still..
Really? :o she doesn't seem to have any issues walking around but i'll look into it thanks!
Glad to hear its not just mine :')
It started with just biting my fingers at the end of a lettuce when i was hand feeding (not sure if it's a thing you should do with tortoises, but both me and the tortoise seem to enjoy it so :D).
Then I put my hand out so she would come over for scratches...
Im unsure if she can't tell the difference between my fingers and carrots, but what I CAN tell you she will rush over and bite my fingers given the chance. Once bitten she does NOT let go :D (and yes, it hurts)
Really?
That actually makes me really happy but I can't believe I was so wrong :D
Thanks a ton!
P.S: if this is how aggressive females can be, I don't want to imagine what mature males will do...
As title says, I've asked this before but people told me he/she was way too small to accurately tell. HE/She has grown a TON since (nearing 0.5KG).And I was hoping it would be different now :
I *think* it is a male because :
* Extremely aggressive to other tortoises : cannot be kept with other...
Imean, last injection deff helped , she started eating again :) Last time she did before was over a week ago so...
I was really hopefull untill she started limping after getting an injection this morning..
he's moving as a tripod right now...
and yeah the vet wanted to poke him with the antibiotics in the leg, tortoise was struggling and was kind of a fight to inject it. Now he doesn't want to move his leg(or since its in front, arm i guess) .
So small update :
I pleaded with the vet to switch to injections. He did.
First one went fine. Tortoise started eating again (yay!).
Second one (today) seems a little problematic, it seems to have 'frozen' my tortoise in place. Eyes open and watching, however not moving a single limb (the...
this is meranox & orniflox, the pink onein the picture is meranox, for worming the tortoise
I'll try to get ur suggestion arranged, that being said im not convinced the vet really cares tbh, and good care for reptiles is hard (read: impossible) to find anywhere near here.
So I took a picture of what happends when I give her medication...
Im not convinced it goes into her lungs anymore honestly, Ithink its more 'throw up'? sometimes it only comes out after say 10 seconds...
Needless to say this aint an option, i think more is coming out than i put in.
yeah.. i mean i'm too scared to pry open their mouth .. As maggie said, I don't feel comfortable injecting my baby :( All i'm trying to figure out is if its possible i'm simply putting it into the tortoise lungs and if yes, if it is dangerous/ ok to do so.
Hello everyone,
Recently one of my young tortoises has fallen ill, sticking its neck out and opening its mouth (I assume to breathe).
As a responsible pet owner I obviously went to a (specialised) vet, and he prescribed some antibiotics to combat the pneumonia.
Since opening its mouth its...
