Best type of lighting for my enclosure?

So would you say I should keep the regular light on during the day and have the CHE switch on at night? Or only CHE 24/7 and no other light?

Best type of lighting for my enclosure?

I was wondering about that too, you read my mind! I read somewhere that redfoots don't need UVB tube lights so I took hers off. They do need them? I can't keep up! :(

Best type of lighting for my enclosure?

I might be calling it the wrong thing but its a ZooMed heating pad that is stuck to the bottom of the tank not a human heating pad that you would set on your lap. Does that make any sense? I'm not sure if I'm describing it well!

Best type of lighting for my enclosure?

Hi all, I am looking to better heat my redfoots enclosure through the night. Right now she has her 100W bulb on during the day and it automatically switches off at night. Under her tank is a heating pad that stays warm 24/7. Right now she is in a 40 gallon tank which I know is not ideal but...

    Constant climbing and flipping

My goodness they could be twins! It makes me feel better it's not just her. It's so funny how they're so stubborn and full of personality! Thank you for the advice. :)

    Constant climbing and flipping

Me again! My tortoise Sally is four years old and a red foot. The past week or two she has taken to the habit of climbing any and everything she can find in her tank. Her log, her water dish, the walls, you name it she is climbing it. Apparently this was not entertaining enough because now she...

    Water dish necessary?

No I use a white basic bulb. I have a powder mineral product that came with Sally when I got her, is it likely the same thing? On my bottle it says I can either top her food with it or mix it with water to make it into basically a salad dressing (ha!) what do you do with yours to serve it? I was...

    Water dish necessary?

The problem I was having and the reason I switched to the coconut fiber substrate was that Sally was eating the wood chips regularly. I thought that she was eating them only because they were attached to her poop but recently caught her eating just a plain old dry wood chip. Any thoughts on this...

    Water dish necessary?

Hi guys, I am pondering something and I would love your opinions. I recently switched to a coconut fiber substrate and it has been great for Sally, the only issue I'm having is that when she walks into her water dish the substrate that is stuck to her goes in the water and creates a mud at the...

    Tips on coconut fiber substrate

I switched from red wood chips (not sure of the technical term for them) because she was eating her poop and they were getting stuck to the poop and it was causing her health problems. I was hoping that this would be slightly easier to digest should that happen again I just didn't realize how...

    Tips on coconut fiber substrate

Hello all, I recently switched Sally over to coconut fiber substrate. It seems to be much better for her but I'm having a problem with it that I need your help with. Significant amounts of the substrate are getting into her water dish and food dish. Because this substrate is so finely grated...

My tortoise won't stop eating wood chips...HELP! :(

Her enclosure is a 40 gallon tank and she is four but I haven’t specifically measured her. I know this isn’t ideal but this is the setup I acquired her with so soon I will have to figure something out that’s bigger but that is what she has for now.

My tortoise won't stop eating wood chips...HELP! :(

Thank you so much for that great explanation! Meat moss sounds like a much better option. And yes there is a warming pad stuck to the bottom of her tank that keeps her warm once her light automatically turns off for bed around 8. :)

My tortoise won't stop eating wood chips...HELP! :(

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good vet in Sioux Falls, SD? She continues to poop out nothing but wood chips and I worry that she needs to see a vet for help with this. I have a vitamin powder I will add to her diet immediately as well. Any other tips are welcomed I’m starting to panic...

My tortoise won't stop eating wood chips...HELP! :(

No I have a regular white light. She had a red lamp for a short amount of time though so I hope that didn’t cause this. :(

My tortoise won't stop eating wood chips...HELP! :(

Thank you for all that great advice Yvonne! Her light and warmer stay on after I leave because I have them set on a timer so they shut off automatically at bedtime but the warmer stays on 24/7. She goes home with me on weekends and over long breaks so she’s always kept at that nice warm 80. The...
