Murphy just turned 1 and we were told not to let him brumate for the first 3 years. Is this true? And if not, how to we prepare him for brumation? We live in southern California where its in the mid-80s in the day and high-50s at night. He lives in a raised enclosure outside, but has heat and a...
Hi all,
Murphy, my DT, is now 4 months old. He has doubled his weight since I got him, which is amazing, eats like a champ and gets plenty of UV and water.
Question, his shell seems to be flatter than what I imagine it should be. He not super round, more of an ellipse. Can anyone tell me if...
Murphy, my 4 month DT was out grazing today. I keep a very close eye but I let him walk wherever he wants. There is nothing dangerous in my yard so I'm not worried about him getting into anything dangerous. EXCEPT TODAY HE ATE A SMALL SNAIL SHELL! It was small enough for him to ingest easily...
He soaks every day for at least that. He loves the water so it's nice. And thank you so much for the calcium advice. He grazes outside when I get home from work so I'm not too concerned hes not getting enough, but I want to make sure for my own piece of mind.
No offense at all! He soaks AT LEAST 20 minutes every day. I hand bathe then let him sit in a terracotta saucer. He loves the water. He probably looks dry because we did this photoshoot with his tank lid off and spent a good 45 minutes taking pictures lol. Also, I am not brumating him this year...
Murphy, my 4 month old DT, is a powerhouse when it comes to eating. He eats 2-3 times a day and eats almost whatever I put in front of him (he has not grown partial to cactus, yet). I've been sprinkling a dash of ReptiCalcium on his greens once a week, but not sure if it's too much or too...
I've had Murphy for two weeks now. When I first got him, he weighed 34 grams. He now weighs 40 grams. I know each tort is different, but I'm not sure 6 grams in two weeks is a lot of progress. He sleeps ALL THE TIME until I wake him up for soaks, exercise and to feed him. I'm sure most of you...
I let him graze outside for about an hour every day and soak him for about 30 minutes. He eats as much as he wants and his humidity is about 50%. I've gotten about a 50/50 reaction to the DT vs Sulcata question, but it seems I won't know for sure for a couple of years.
When I first got Murphy, his previous owner told me he was a DT. Now, many others are telling me hes a Sulcata! Would you guys be able to help me our in figuring out what my little Murph is?
