    Mold growing up the walls

Thank you! That’s what I did, I used a combination of vinegar and hydrogen peroxide 3% as my disinfectant. Thank you! My weekend will be spent sealing this huge enclosure. I thought my pond liner would prevent mold :(

    Mold growing up the walls

Great information. I have been wanting to buy a radiant heat panel, but as soon as it heats up in Colorado, I am building an outdoor enclosure and plan on housing then outside for part of the year. So I figured I would invest in the radiant heater in September, before I bring them back in. What...

    Mold growing up the walls

I have 2-75 watt basking bulbs that run at night to keep the temperature at 80. During the day I have 1 MVB bulb, 1 linear UVB bulb and one 75 watt basking lamp that run during the day to keep the temperatures at 84-86 during the day. There is 2 basking spots that stay at 100, when the lamps are on.

    Mold growing up the walls

Also, I have been told that her pyramiding is not concerning, I just worry about it, because I am comparing her to our other torte. and I think it’s interesting that she isn’t completely smooth, with the humidity and temp levels being so steady.

    Mold growing up the walls

So this mold issue just started over the last couple of days, while I was out of town. I’m trying to figure out the best/safest method to get rid of the mold. She gets soaked every day for 10 to 15 minutes and fed a variety of dandelions, mustard greens, turnip greens, etc. every other day...

    Mold growing up the walls

Has anyone treated mold growing up their wood enclosure walls? It came on quick, so I am going to use vinegar and a drop of an essential oil called Purify, that kills mold/mildew spores. Originally, I didn’t want to Kilz it, because of the fumes. But now, I don’t know if it would be too late...

How much lighting is too much?

I have been keeping my enclosed enclosures humidity at 80% but the temps creep up on me. I think I have too many lights/Che but I have been trying to keep the corners warm and not letting them drop below 80...any thoughts on better positioning or different types of lights?

    Terra-cotta pot growing white fuzz

Is it a bad sign when the Terra-cotta pot, inside the enclosure is growing white fuzz aka mold? I removed it and cleaned it off, but I’m wondering if that can do damage to our Hermann or if it’s a sign that it’s to damp? Humidity level is at 80%

    Building a new closed enclosure

I am getting pretty overwhelmed with all the information on this forum, which is such a big help, but so many choices. Can an experienced Hermann keeper tell me which lights they would buy for our set up. And the recommended distances for the lights your recommending. I will buy a solar meter...

    Humidity & Dry climate question

Okay, we do have a shed. It just seems crazy putting him in a box lol. But it makes sense. So when the temperatures drop to zero which doesn’t happen very often ( we may have 1 or 2 cold snaps during the winter) would I just take the box and put him inside of the garage with blankets around it...

    Humidity & Dry climate question

So at what age can they stay outside? Is it close to full grown? I would love for them to be able to hibernate and live as natural as possible. I was thinking if they hibernated, when I gets cold, I could move a dog house, with a heat lamp over them to keep them warm, but still in hibernation...

    Humidity & Dry climate question

I was thinking those were the only 3 types of tortoises that would work in our climate, thank you for confirming! We are planning on fencing off an 8x10 area in our backyard for our future tort. But want to wait until we move to a larger yard (possibly in a few years, if we end up relocating to...

    Humidity & Dry climate question

At What age can I not worry about the humidity level needing to be high? In case they are spending a lot of time outside, I don’t want to hinder their shell from growing properly. So we’re making quite a few changes to our tortoises habitat but we had him for a month before he got sick and...

    Humidity & Dry climate question

We are looking at getting another tortoise, since our Hermanns hatchling passed away. We would like to be able to keep him outside (when he’s old enough) but we live in a very dry climate...Colorado. We also don’t have a large back yard, so we don’t want it to get to outgrow our backyard. Any...
