Our 65-pound Sulcata, Tortuga, peacefully coexists with our free-range rabbit, Rufus. As you know, Sulcatas don't "go around" anything, so if Rufus is in his path, he just plows through and Rufus gets out of his way. They share food all the time. We are in Southern Oregon, so Tortuga has a...

    Kane Mats/pig blankets

Thanks! This is exactly the info I was looking for. A friend recommended pig blankets, I found the Osborne site online, and I came here to see if they are used for Sulcatas. Great! What size did you buy? 2 x 3? My Tortuga is 50 pounds. Elizabeth

Outdoor heated house for a Sulcata

Indeed! He's a real chowhound. He had his own carrot but that doesn't stop him from wanting his friends' carrots too!

Outdoor heated house for a Sulcata

Thank you, Tom! I apparently wasn't using the right search term. Night box, it is. I'll read up.

Outdoor heated house for a Sulcata

Hi! Hoping you can point me to building plans for a heated outdoor Sulcata house. Tortuga goes into his plastic doghouse on his own in the evening, but I want to replace it with an electrified wooden house with a heat source. (Last winter I used a reptile mat and covered him with a hot pad and...

Can you share your specs? Looking to make something similar for Southern Oregon and a single male Sulcata, 50 lbs.

    Curious about her age...

Ha ha OK. No offense taken. I live in Southern Oregon, which has snowy winters. When I found him on a walk and took him in, he was the size of a cheeseburger. I read enough to learn he needed to be indoors during the winter, so we did the baby pool thing in the family room among all the other...

    Curious about her age...

Really, Charlie? You are shaming me for ignorance of the species? I am a cat/rabbit/chicken person who found him on the side of the road and took him on. Give me a break.

    Curious about her age...

Thank you, @Tom! I love Tortuga and take good care of him, but he landed in my life, and I am no expert. I appreciate your expertise! Our back "lawn" is planted with field grass, timothy hay, clover, and wildflowers, and he free-ranges peacefully on 1/8 acre with 2 Flemish Giant rabbits and 12...

    Curious about her age...

Thanks, Tom. I can't lift her and get a shot at the same time, but I think Yvonne is right too. I just looked at a bunch of photos, and I've got a male. He was pretty small when we found him, made the call at that time, and never revised it! Thanks for tip about fruit. She foraged those along...

Well OK then! Thank you very much. You’d think after my the reading I would have known that. I’ll read up on sex characteristics.

How can you tell? Her bottom shell is flat. I thought that was a determining factor

    Curious about her age...

Hi! My female Sulcata is 50 pounds. We found her by the side of the road six years ago, and she was the size of a cheeseburger (with pyramiding). She free-ranges in the back yard. Any guess as to how old she is? Maybe 10 years? Here she is after enjoying some blackberries yesterday.

    Meet Tortuga from Oregon

Hi! We're new members from Southern Oregon. Torti is a free-range backyard tortoise for two-thirds of the year. She winters indoors. She's about 45 pounds and six years old. Does anyone else's Sulcata climb a woodpile?
