Hello! Haven’t been on this site in a while, I was planning on buying a Redfoot tortoise and asked for advice last time I was on here but after much consideration decided that I will go for a hermann instead.
Unfortunately where I am in the uk there are no reliable hermann breeders even close...
Sorry for late reply! Well I’ve looked all over the place, posted adds.. and so far I have only found 2 Redfoot breeders in uk! Quite a few adult torts for sale on pets for homes but not many breeders about at all!
thanks for the replies! Yeah I’m in uk so don’t have the 4” rule.. when I asked could he send some photos of the tortoise, he only sent one photo, feels like pulling teeth trying to get anything out of him. On the photo the tort looked very small but now he’s saying 4 inches it could very well...
So I’ve been looking for a redfoot cherry head to buy- I’ve found a ‘breeder’ who lives a few hours away.. so not easy for me to go see in person, however, he has sent me a few pictures and all looks well.. BUT he said the baby hatched this year, 12 weeks old- then when I asked how big the tort...
Hello!
Looking for advice on growing live plants, I’m planning on getting a redfoot, buying a vivarium to keep on top of the humid conditions, what live plants are easy to grow? I’m just thinking might be difficult to sustain with the lighting ect..
Thankyou! I honestly just can’t seem to process all of the sizes/wattage ect easily in my head!
What is the difference in wattage based on?
Does the thermostat come with the che emitter?
And do I have to keep it on constantly or off at night?
Sorrry for all the questions :)
I was planning on getting a ceramic heat emitter for my vivarium, I don’t have it with me yet but It’s 6ftx2ftx2ft. I haven’t bought one before so which is the most reliable brand, what wattage for this size viv, and where abouts do I place it? Can you change the temperature at all on them? If...
I think because of it having to be sprayed daily and kept so humid there’s still the risk of the wood up the sides and top being affected
Obviously they have some sort of coating anyways but i wanna be on the safe side and keep it as good condition as possible :)
I’m so glad I found it! Yeah It says it is coated against moisture but wouldn’t wanna take any chances so yeah that’s deffo a good idea about the paint! Is this available at b&q ect? I’d love to get the biggest one from the off but unfortunately I think we’ll have to go with the 6ft for now then...
Also will I only need one che for the whole viv? And where abouts do I place it? Would it be suitable to have the che at one end and a small 50w spot light at one end just to light it up and maintain temperature at both ends?
Oh yeah I get what you mean, I’ve been reading about pyramiding too. I’m so glad I found this site cause of all the misinformation online, even on sites that are meant to be reliable. I thought I’d had everything sussed when I got my baby horsefield then joined here and I felt awful that I’d...
Wow that looks amazing!! Loving the ornaments ;) also wondering a lot of people have stressed not to use vivariums and to use tables, is this just because their breeds of tortoise don’t need the humidity but for the redfoots it’s essential therefore making the vivs a better option?
Hello! Sorry for the late comment as I see this was a few months ago, just wondering where you got this enclosure? I’m hoping to purchase a redfoot and need something just like this :)
Ah that looks great! So much easier to grasp when you can put the words to pictures haha, also I was planning to grow live plants in the enclosure, is this do-able with the humidity?
And the che emitter, what are your recommendations on brand/ wattage? Is it easy to starch to the table...
I see, so would it be alright to use the table I was going to get (possibly in the bigger size) with something fitted over to cover the top? Or would I be better off buying a vivarium?
And so I would need the uvb tube but no basking lamp at all needed at all in the enclosure as long as the...
