    My Valentine Hates Her Light

Thank you so much for your kind advice Alex! I lowered the CHE really close to the screen and it’s warming her enclosure better so I don’t have to have the room as warm! I’ll experiment with some fun little shady areas and get her humidity up! I have a humidifier that I can also start using in...

    My Valentine Hates Her Light

Thank you so much Suzanne! I lowered it with that elbow and got it close. Her enclosure is heating up better this way, without my room needing to be as warm! As I said above, who knew such an easy fix haha?! Thank you for making me feel better about this! : )

    My Valentine Hates Her Light

Oh boy… I didn’t realize they’ll eat the moss! I’ll remove it! So I ended up just lowering the lamp to basically sit on top of the mesh and it seems pretty safe and is warming up her enclosure better… I even got to lower my room’s temperature… such a simple fix haha. Thank you guys for this...

    My Valentine Hates Her Light

I’ve always been afraid to leave the house with heat lamp and light laid on top of the wire… especially because the sides of our wire-top have wood… perhaps I’m overreacting though haha.

    My Valentine Hates Her Light

I’m using a ceramic heat emitter, but I’ve noticed when my bedroom’s temp. starts to drop, so does her enclosure’s. My ceramic heat emitter is a 100w, and I only have the one. I’ll attach a picture of her enclosure!

    My Valentine Hates Her Light

Thank you so much for your help! That makes me feel a lot better knowing you don’t think the light (5.0) is too much for her. It has definitely started cooling down here, but she’s in my bedroom and I make sure her enclosure temperature doesn’t drop too low… which I’ve struggled with due to...

    Hello Everyone : )

Thank you Yvonne! I will read up on red-footed tortoises and share what I learn with my mom. They live in NM, so it’s pretty dry, but they can build her a suitable home that will better benefit her : ) Thank you for the resource!

    Hello Everyone : )

Hi there everyone, So I gained so much insight and help from this community concerning my own hingeback tortoise, and I know plenty of people on here will be helpful, once again, concerning my mom’s tortoise! I’m posting two pictures of her along with this post. My mom has had Isabella for...

    Hello from Valentine and Family!

Oh you’ve been all around the area then! That’s awesome! I’m originally from Billings, Montana, and have always wanted to come back to Montana so I’m very happy with where we’re at. We’ve been to Hyalite a couple of times so far, but the last time we went up in late April, the gate was still...

    Hello from Valentine and Family!

@2turtletom, Thank you so much for all of your awesome help! It makes me feel much better that not only have you been in Bozeman and it sounds like you've experienced our weather, but that you're a western hingeback owner too! This is so awesome to find out what type of tortoise she actually is...

    Hello from Valentine and Family!

@Will I will definitely try the hard-boiled eggs and forest floor substrate. Also, I’ll go grab that forest food diet. So every year, during the winter, in New Mexico, she would sleep a lot more and I figured she was trying to hibernate and just couldn’t fully hibernate because too much activity...

    Hello from Valentine and Family!

Hi all! We need help I know Valentine isn’t an aquatic turtle, but the protein in the aquatic turtle food is so much higher (35% compared to 12%). And for the calcium part, should we just get a calcium (cuttlebone) stick or the little block that has both calcium and protein (2.5% protein and 29%...

    Hello from Valentine and Family!

Thank you all so so very much! We are going to go to the store today to get her a source of calcium and protein. Do you think just purchasing a calcium stick (like the birds use) and just scraping some on top of her food will be sufficient, or is there something else I should get? With the...

    Hello from Valentine and Family!

Oh! Also, it might be necessary to tell you that the last snow we had was just about a month ago (May sometime). She is only an indoor tortoise and we take her outside when she’s awake (apartment living). Also, she gets this cut by the side of her mouth that I CANNOT heal... perhaps that is...
