    Need help with weed identification

Hi everyone! It's been awhile since I posted here. Hi Tom! Anyways, we moved to the Central Valley in California about 2 years ago and I now have new weeds to identify. This winter, I was blessed with a plush spread of green weeds growing through my yard...COMPLETELY different from the ones...

    Humidity and night drops

Does anyone have info on the humidity and temperatures for day vs night in various African countries where leopards are found? Been discussing that article about nocturnal heat on a Facebook group and it got me thinking... I know that damp and cold can cause RIs and that’s why we keep the temps...

    Meet Hoppy the leopard tortoise

He’s doing great. Still small for what others on this forum have had for leos at the 1 year mark, but he finally hit 100 grams and his shell is coming out nice and smooth. I have another post where I’ve been uploading monthly photos to track his shell growth but I haven’t uploaded in awhile.

    Activity level for tortoises

Basking area is 100. Cool side is 87. Humidity 83%. Ambient temps mid 80s. He didn’t gain any weight the first 2 months I had him. Then I found out his breeder was just feeding him romaine and cactus. So I switched him to romaine as crappy as it can be, he started eating more and gaining weight...

    Found another weed, ID anyone?

It’s tropical chickweed (Drymatia). Thanks! Not regular chickweed (Stellaria). No wonder I couldn’t find it, always skipped across the chickweed photos in weed lists. This came up after I actually googled it. Thanks!

    Activity level for tortoises

Hi all, If anyone has followed my previous posts about my Hoppy a leopard tortoise, you’ll know he’s never been a great eater or grower. Anyways, he’s about 11 months old now and just at 96 grams. I read all the time that tortoises need exercise and should be provided with a large enclosure...

    Found another weed, ID anyone?

Found another weed in my yard that looks edible but can’t figure out what it is. Hoppy took a few bites from it when he was wandering in the yard. He is the pickiest eater and surprised me when he took to the tassleflower and Florida pusley so when I saw him nibbling on this, I thought it has to...

Can anyone identify this weed? Florida

Also just found this list of plants that gopher torts eat. Figured it could help narrow down lists for any keepers in florida. These are just weeds that are commonly found here and eaten by gopher torts. file:///C:/Users/MedStudent/Downloads/Table_3_Important_GT_Native_Food_Plants.pdf

Can anyone identify this weed? Florida

Bitter melon is absolutely digusting. I'm Chinese and my parents cook it occassionally, they like it, something about it being an acquired taste. But it's literally the most bitter thing you can bite into. I tried to get Hop to eat the balsam apple leaves...didn't touch it. But then again, he's...

Can anyone identify this weed? Florida

I think the second is called balsam apple vine. Previous posts said leaves are safe but torts don’t really care for them... darn

Can anyone identify this weed? Florida

So I just moved back to my house where there are tons of weeds and no known chemical use. I just can’t find the name of these guys on google so figured I’d ask. These 2 weeds grow all over my front yard. The first two pics I think is some sort of nettle? And then second two pics grows in a vine...

    Hibiscus powder

I could try this too, I've tried so many different ratios. So far I've found that making a 50:50 ratio with larger pieces work. Since he eventually gets the hibiscus into his mouth

    Hibiscus powder

I've been trying this too but not sure how much is actually making it into his mouth since it just pushed around as he goes for the lettuce. I also bought some TNT powder for him last night just to get more of the vitamins in while I'm trying to get him switched over.

    Hibiscus powder

So if anyone has been reading my posts on my super slow growing leo Hoppy, I recently mentioned that he really started eating for me about 2-3 months ago when I found out his breeder was mainly feeding him romaine lettuce, carrots, strawberry tops, and cactus pads. When I first got him I started...

    Finally some growth!

Even more growth a month later!! Left is Jan 8 and right is March 10. Crazy how much he's grow. Since I first started documenting this. It's now noticeable that his vertebral scutes are smoothing out.

    Ojai Sulcata Project

Yup, as a med student, we use what's called evidence-based medicine, meaning we use techniques and medications that have been shown through many studies and other clinical evidence to have the best results. And who knows, maybe someone else will discover an even better way to raise these...

    Ojai Sulcata Project

So I stumbled upon a tortoise youtuber who has switched from an open air enclosure for her tortoises to one with an enclosed canopy top (like the triangle shaped greenhouses some of you use). In one of her old videos she stated that hatchlings should be set up in an open air tub and I asked if...
