    HELP-injured Box Turtle

Came home yesterday and found my dogs fighting over a young box. Hes been chewed on pretty badly and the marginal scutes have been chwed off. Luckily, my leo tort has been moved outside and i repurposed his winter cage to house the little guy. I decided to leave him completely alone till this...

    Stupid fedex!

I use to buy and ship a lot of live coral and learned to use the hold service. Instead of it being put on a truck, exposed to the elements and stress created by the movement it will be delivered to a shelf in a office and wait for you to pick up. In addition, mY local fedex hold facility is open...

how do u guys think about my diet for lepoard tortoise?

Looks good to me tho I doubt a Leo that young will eat dry hay. It took mine four months to eat rehydrated Timothy hay after daily acclimation. If feeding three times a day, I would keep the portions fairly small.

    Finally!

I havent tried the cubes again since this post. But it is coming around on the rotation and will soon. Keep in mind elvis is around a year old and have read older torts accept dried grasses more easily. Even if he rejects rhe whole cube next time, i will continue to grind them up and sprinkle...

    Finally!

One of the first commercially prepared food i bought was timothy cubes. Made for hamsters i felt if i could get elvis to eat them, it would a good fiberous addition to his food rotation. I knew, based on my reading hereit was a longshot and i was right. Wouldnt touch it. But i still added them...

Leave tortoise alone for a week?

Tho I have never left for a week, I have left my Leo overnight and when I do, I use his water dish like a vase. I put several whole leaves of greens, cut end down in his water. They stay fresh as long as they are in the water. Just make sure you make a fresh cut at the end of each to remove...

Practical Lighting for Tortoise Keepers - discussion

Great article! Thanks for taking the time to write this. If anyone wants to take this one step further and expand their knowledge on lighting without having to read technical manuals, I recommend you spend some additional time on some of the Reef forums (reefcental.org, reefs.org). Coral...

    Leapord sleep pattern

Quick Update: I checked the temp at the basking spot last night with a more accurate thermometer. Turned out it was close to 125! YIKES! I purchased a new dome light fixture with a dimmer and dialed it down to exactly 105. I also replaced the floursecent tube (10K) with a reptiun 10.0. A...

    Leapord sleep pattern

No it is not. It is a 75w reptile spotlight. For now it is keeping the temps where I want them tho I may switch to a PowerSun when our temps drop this winter.[hr] Sorry. Flashback from my aquarium days... T8 is a standard sized tube flourescent. It is not a coil type which is a compact...

    Leapord sleep pattern

Jack - Thanks for the reply. I am not 100% certain but I would estimate 9-10 mths old. Temps - I felt (up until recently) the enclosure had a good temp gradient. Under the spotlight it was 100-110 and about 85-90 on the far side. After reading this post and that they like to sleep during the...

    Leapord sleep pattern

Hmmm! Now I am a little worried. Actually I was worried before I read this thread. Elvis seems to sleep a lot. I would estimate 90% or more. I worked from home Friday and watched him wake up, eat, move under a plant and sleep until 5 ish when he ate again before heading in to his dry hide...

How did you prepare the agave? I thought the leaves of this plant were very tough and never considered feeding it to a leo.
