Hi,
I should have asked this question last year but i finally got the information from the guy i gave my torts too. Last August I dropped off my 7yr old sulcatas to a nice guy and he claimed that he had a reptile sanctuary. Upon arriving at his place 6 hrs away we found out that he wasn't able...
So this morning I looked outside and found Murphy upside down out in the open, not under her hiding spot. Elvis was still inside his hole he dug. I'm not sure what happened but I brought her inside, gave her a warm soak and put her in her enclosure. She seems to be doing fine. Not letting her...
What is the coolest outside temperature for a sulcatas without a night box? Virginia weather has been very unpredictable and I'm trying to figure out the temperature at which I bring them inside. Thank you
So there's a large mulberry tree in the yard behind the tortoise enclosure that drops berries, now that I know fruit is bad do I need to be worried about them eating these? I can try to rake them but the birds are up in the trees making it difficult to keep up.
So I was thinking of using a plastic container but I decided I wanted a more organic looking bathing spot. I'm thinking of digging a shallow pond using a liner. I was planning on putting river rock around it. Suggestions please.
I just want to thank everyone that has helped me understand all my past mistakes with Elvis and Murphy. I don't take how I've raised them this far lightly. I'm making changes for a better life for them each day. Please be patient with me as my husband works a lot of hours and I am doing my best...
Hi all again, I was wondering if I put out a shallow plastic container of water and build mulch around it would that be enough water or do I still need to soak them too. Virginia is extremely humid so I'm not sure. Also if I throw out grass seed as well as let the weeds grow is that enough food...
Hi all, as you know I'm building an outdoor space for my two sulcatas. I'm trying to decide how to split the space. Any advice would be appreciated. The entire space is 20'X12' I was thinking of diagonal or something similar. Their sharing the same hide just divided with their own entrance...
For a new person trying to do the right thing there is so much information and very confusing because I don't know what works for what tortoise, climate, location. Trying to sift through all the threads is making my head hurt.
Hi all, I was wondering if its OK to allow my 4 year old sulcata to dig his own holes. Elvis seems to dig and Murphy seems to use plants and wood to hide in. We're starting on their outside enclosure tomorrow and I was wondering if I should just lay cement bricks around where he already digs...
As you all know I'm the one that did everything wrong. We are building and outdoor enclosure in the area attached. I wanted them to have the entire backyard but I now know that with the pond and other hazards it makes sense to give them a secured space. Thank you for all your input
OK, now that I totally freaked out my torts. He's your pictures. Murphy is the first two pictures and Elvis is the next two. They look the same except Elvis is much bigger in size. Thank you again for all the help
After reading multiple post on all topics it seems I'm doing everything wrong. My enclosure is open, my torts are litter mates, that have mated more times than I can count. It looks like based on pictures that both my torts are deformed. I'm trying to re-learn all about what I need to do. I'm...
I just read this, my torts are litter mates. Last year they started mating. I am now concerned about all that was mentioned. They currently live in an indoor enclosure that is probably not the best since reading all about that too. Question, if I move them outside do I still need to separate...
Hi all, I have been a member for awhile but haven't written much and I just installed the app so I thought I would try it again. My sulcatas are a little over 4 yrs. Elvis (male) Murphy (female) last winter they mated several times as they share the same enclosure. They have spent a few days...
