I just recently picked up a pair of them and they are a blast. Here they are competing for the UVB, which is strange because when doing research most articles say hatchlings do not come out of the water to bask at all.
You could run a ceramic heat emitter off of a thermostat set to your desired temperature. As other stated, you will need to keep the humidity up since these seem to dry the enclosure out.
I would always take a hobbyist over a retailer. Main reason is that most retailers get their EBT's from people in South Carolina who can collect from the wild and sell. If you are looking for quality hatchlings, get in contact with Chris Leone. You may have to pre-order them since its egg laying...
The plastron definitely has a slight concavity, and when I noticed the vent being much further down the tail when comparing to other adult female's I have, I was questioning it. I do not want to be the one to find out in a few years when he/she becomes mature that it is indeed a male. When I do...
Long story short, a seller had multiple eastern box turtle females for sale and they were numbered, I ordered a number and received a different turtle than ordered. I am not very picky, the animal I received is in great condition and has nice color. However, I just wanted a second opinion that...
I found mine in leaf litter so it was quite unexpected. In the time it took me to set up the incubator and substrate for them, they were already starting to dent. I believe it has to do with the humidity, because once I put them in the incubator they popped back to being firm within a few hours.
I have used flex seal to coat the complete inside of a closed chamber 4z2z2. I have not had any issues with it, so I would assume putting it on the top would not be a problem!
I have a couple eastern adults that are all rescues, either from M.A.T.T.S or craigslist. Realistically are there any that are CB that breeders sell? When it comes to the laws in MD, if a DNR officer shows up to inspect your animals, you need documentation of the common name, scientific name, #...
Technically speaking, in Maryland you can take one eastern box turtle from the wild, but as stated above it is not in the turtles best interest. You can own only one without the Captive Reptile Permit. Ethically, it would be best to buy a CB box turtle, which are sold on KingSnake.com...
I have a little convincing to do, but I think I'm gonna double the space making it about 16x8. Would that be an okay size to add maybe another female or two to make the ratio better, while still being adequate space for them all?
