I appreciate everyone who took the time to respond to me in an effort to help.
Our little guy passed sometime early this morning.
I will never buy anything from underground reptiles ever again.
I wish you all the best.
I bought my sulcata from underground reptiles before reading reviews :-/
At first the little guy seemed okay although hes never been a big eater unless outside.
Now though hes wanting to sleep a lot, only opens his eyes outside and they seem very watery, his shell is feeling softer so much so...
guys I think hes sick...
his shell feels soft today (it never has before)
and hes pretty lethargic..I gave him a carrot bath and he seemed to perk up for a minute but then back to sleep in his tank..
ive been reading about hatchling failure and am really worried hes going through it.....
I have the reptimed
Its a zoomed set up so the double dome light with a zoo med uva and a zoo med uvb
The uva is a 10 w and the uvb is 15
He has the basking set up over the left zide of his terranium with the uvb over the middle and his basking spot and water dish to the far right.
Im unsure its only the one eye that wont open and I went a little crazy with his food options so he has alfalfa hay, mazuri pellets, some land tortoise plend that looks like poop and some Faulkner's tortoise food
I also give him dandelion
Romaine lettuce and occasionally carrots
I purchased him from a breeder in Flordia :-/
As far as the lighting goes we have a dual light for day time that offers a 150 w uvb and a 100 w uva I like to start his day with just the uva then after about an hour the uvb kicks on as well and stays on till about 6pm when again the sun...
Need some insight
The underside of our baby is feeling soft and palable.
Like a weak plastic lid
Hes eating and ive been putting more calcium he seems to prefer alfalfa hay with romaine, clover, and sliced carrots. I also sprinkle faukners land tortoise food.
He has a uvb and a uva light as...
So we got a sulcata hatchling for my daughter birthday present (of course dad and I are both on board with caring for the little guy)
Obviously shes a kid and its a cute baby so shes going to want to hold it from time to time. Is this a huge no no? Can she pick it up and let it wonder?
I have some questions I just got my first sulcata hes still a hatchling.
I wanted to kniw about the lighting, currently we have a 100 watt uva light. Is that ok or is there a difference in uva and uvb?
Any tips and recommendations would be amazing I want him to be healthy and happy
