I live in South Florida. I am looking for a pet tortoise that I can leave outside in my back yard to roam free. I will provide a structure with a heat lamp for those chilly Florida nights. What would be a suitable species? I would like a big one that doesn't dig. Any suggestions

I'm thinking you should get a Sulcata, because they get big (about idk 2-2 and a half ft long) I've only had a Russian, but I don't think they dig. so there you go.

Happy Monday all! Today is roam the house with mommy day. We allow Flash to roam around the room as we do one of his weekly cage cleanings.

I've read quite a lot about Russians and know that they handle cooler weather alright. I've been taking him outside every day for a couple hours. The other day, we had a cooler day. He just went into a corner of the yard and sat there. I was wondering how cool can it be to take him out for a short exercise time? I don't want him to get sick by taking him out on a cool damp day if he's usually inside and dry.
I adopted a Russian about 4 months ago. His shell seems very dry and has white spots indented on the shell. The bottom shell is now peeling off. I started treating with chlorohexine a week ago. Not sure if helping anything or not. Thought it might be shell rot but shell is not soft and does not smell. Please help. I can't figure out how to add pictures

I'm a new mommy myself. But ours had an indented shell for a while so I started to give him calcium and vitamins. I know they need a pan to soak in as well and I have heard putting coconut oil on the shell helps for dryness but I am not an expert at this.

Hello! For Christmas today I got a Russian Tortoise. I have soil for him but it's a little damp. Does the soil have to be fully dry or can I put in him the wet soil?

you can put him in wet soil, but not too damp because they need a balanced humidity
I am new here and i dont know what ican do to help my tortoise. I got her yesterday and she slept the whole day and when she woke up she didnt eat or drink anything. She's also got a white spot on her left eye that looks like a pus but i cant accurately identify what it is. There is no vet in my area and I was hoping you would help.

When we first brought ours home he was lethargic for about 5 days then he started to settle down and become active.

Hello! I am trying to get in touch with a forum member, "mightymizz", and I started a conversation with her. However, she hasn't had any activity on the forum since December. Is there another way to get in touch with her, such as email? Thank you, Alex.
Hey sorry I was wondering if you could move my thread about my new tortoise from the FAQ section to the sulcata section. I am on mobile and didn't realize I was in the wrong part sorry.
Sorry to invade your profile space, but did you write Rainbow Bridge? If so, thanks, although it's a bit slushy it rather made me, cynical old me, fill up. Not the sort of thing i believe in, but the sentiment is lovely. So thanks, if it was you, which smarch seemed to think.

Hi my greek tortoise who is almost a year old (will be one year old in December) has not been pooping lately. He continues to eat regularly and bathe regularly (30 minutes every other day in luke warm water) he tries very hard to get his stool out but always fails. He used to be very active and such but lately he has almost seemed weak. Should I take him to the vet? Please help. I'm very concerned for him. Thank you!
Inquiring about user name change would like to take my last name off a and use Anthony32
