I'm looking to buy a young Russian tortoise, and would like to know how much the total cost (including shipping to 07740) would be for only a hatchling, or only a CB three year old. Thanks
I really need help with my baby sucalta tortoise tank is a 37 gallon glass tank ok with Eco earth and a zoo med powers in 100 watt bulb I can't get humidity to come up right now he is only in a 18x18x8-12
Hi Tom. I love how active you are on here and how knowledgable you are. I am looking to build an enclosure for my one year old sulcata. Could you point me in the right direction of where I could see your setups?
Hi Tom I have noticed that you like to use Western Organic Pathway Bark. Do you know the wood composition for this product? Im planning on using it for a sulcata and I heard pine is toxic for them. I cant seem to find this companies website to ensure that it is not pine. I am currently using orchid bark as substrate but want to find something cheaper.
Hi tom! I've seen your around. I'm currently breeding my pair of Russian torts and would like you opinion on incubators/care, I have read many books and websites about this topic, but you clearly know what your doing and I would like a second opinion. Sorry for troubling you! And thanks!
Hi Tom, Im a new member. Already posted on a thread but also saw your in Southern Cali. I thought it was funny you have dog trainer as your main description on a tortoise forum. I actually watched a video on training tortoises. Im a believer. Probably will try with a clicker and treats even if it takes years. Either way hi.
13 lb. Been having some diarrhea. He lives outside during the day on one acre with plenty of grasses. Since the diarrhea has started this is his diet 99%. For the poop...sometimes its good; solid, grassy, brown. Several times a week its totally watery, slimey, brown liquid. Other times yet, its both, like yesterday, liquid, solid, then back to liquid all in the same poop. Fecal sample came back normal
Hi Tom, I'd like to send you some pictures of my sully so I could get your opinion on his pyramiding (or lack there of) but I'm not sure how...also I posted the following on as old thread but was hoping to get your opinion
I am getting 3 or 4 that are 5"-6" so I'm guessing a few years away from breeding? What size would you say they mature? Are you recommending against an outside enclosure for them? How big is your indoor enclosure for yours & how many?
Also making a new night box for the outdoor enclosure. I see yours are bare wood bottom as no substrate goes on the kane mat. So do they need a humid night box? do you do anything for humidity for your Burmese in an outdoor night hide?
Thank you again, and I look forward to comparing notes as we both do more with this great species.
I am making a 3x8 chamber for them The last one I built, I put in a vent on either side, copying your 2015 experiment. Do you find that vent is necessary? I am concerned the enclosure will get too hot in the summer months, so what do you do to keep yours cooler. With a 65 watt backing light and tube fluorescent in my babies' 3x4 enclosure - it already gets to the max I like and its still the end of winter!
Tom Thank you for the referral to James. I will be getting a small group of Platynota next week from him. I do have a few questions to ensure I'm setting them up correctly. I guess I need to split it up as I am limited to 420 characters...
Hi Tom, as a new member I just wanted to thank you for your invaluable advice. I have plans to purchase my first Leopard tortoise this summer and it's important for me to research and learn how to provide an environment wherein my tortoise will thrive. I have purchased many books but I must say I have learned more by reading your threads than I have collectively in these outdate texts. I cannot thank you enough!
If yes, you need a closed chamber.
