  • The temperatures here in Charleston will be around 80 tomorrow and our 3 year old tortoise will be feasting outside for Thanksgiving. Is the baby tortoise too young to go outside (in enclosure) for a little bit? What is the minimum temperature/time for it?
    Thanks,
    Marion

With the opportunity to be in direct sun (and also to sit in shade), mid 70Fs are okay. Keep in mind a crow or any small mammal can make a meal of them. Also this is when getting desiccated (dried out) can happen. So a heap of something moist to be able to hide in is good, like tallish growing grass.

We sat and watched it explore the outside enclosure for about 45 min yesterday and today. It munched down on some grass and weeds.
The tort is out for delivery. I will let you know when it arrives. Quick question, how long should I quarantine him from our 3 year old leopard tortoise?
    Thanks,

Quarantine serves more than one purpose. Aside from seeing that there may or may not be disease, it gives you a chance to know the tortoise as an individual. I think that is equally important. I usually go no less than three to six months. Some individuals will live there life as if in quarantine until I seek to try and mate them with another.
    Hi Will,
I was curious what type of bedding was used when the tortoise was in your care. I would like to keep it the same while the tortoise its adjusting to new habitat. Thanks

I use coco husk chunks and cypress mulch. these are larger particles than coco coir, so they can't ingest it and it makes them work a little to get around by walking. I keep it very moist so that underneath the 1.2 to one inch layer there is standing water.
I have received a lot of admiration of your skills for spider tortoise. Could you please tell me about the detial to keep the wonderful pet.Thank you very much.
Hi there! Yvonne sent me your way... Inquiring about any baby Leopards you may still have?
Hello Will, I am looking for a Leopard (GpB). Do you have any available or due soon? If so, what sex did you incubate for, if any?
