It's beautiful. Where did you get it? It does look like a desert tort, but I don't know if California.
do females have higher domes? or is that a difference between Mojave and sonoran?
Wild....did you get lucky in passing to get the pics?
I think is a Texas tortoises
Being as how you're in Texas, its probably a Gopherus berlandieri, but it is quite different-looking. They are normally grey and don't usually have a nuchal scute.
