I just received this, sort of smells like dog kibble. I thought Mazuri looked sort of greenish and with cellulose looking fibers in it. I don't want to feed the Russian barking food.

Here is the pics, the first is wet and the second dry.

Thanks, John

When I was at the Turtle Survival Alliance conference at the beginning of August in Orlando i talked to the Mazuri rep. There are now two types of tortoise diet.

Ok, which is the one to use or which one do you use?

Mazuri® Tortoise LS Diet or Mazuri® Tortoise Diet

I take it one is better for the big ones?

I feed mine the regular one with a nice varied diet lots of weeds and grasses along with a lot of other stuff. That's for stars though. I don't know about Russians.

I use Mazuri as a once a week supplement. The rest of the time they get fresh greens and they graze on what's growing in their yard.

I picked up some mazuri today and surprise,Picture 078 copy.jpg they have pics on the bag now, It's been a couple months since I bought some so this may be old news for some. I will be getting some more of the new formula in two weeks, probably will be in the same type of bag. What I have been doing lately is mixing about 2 parts old and 1 part new formula for The sulcatas, the leopard, and the indian star. Everyone else gets a little less of the new mixed in, except the manouria they still just get the old.

Ya but I've never seen a formula made for more than one animal. Because turtles and tortoises have very different food requirements

The LS is higher protein and is for grassland eating torts. I use the LS for my Sulcata and the regular for my Redfoots. They get some mixed into their food 2 times a week.

0.0.1 Redfoot (Spike)
0.0.1 Cherryhead Redfoot (Bruce Wayne)
1.0 Sulcata (Hal Jordan)

I would be hesitant to buy the Mazuri 'REPTILE' Diet. Crocs and some lizards have different food requirements than vegetation-eating tortoises do. I wouldn't want to feed something that has animal protein in it for crocs.

I think, if you're ordering it from your feed store, you should be sure to ask specifically for MAZURI TORTOISE DIET. and not Mazuri Reptile Diet...even though it has a picture of a sulcata on the label.

Yvonne, I don't believe they have a general reptile diet. What is in the bag pictured above is the old mazuri tortoise diet. you still have to read the tag sewed onto the bottom of the bag to see what particular feed is in the bag. and as for the turtle diet all I have ever seen is the water turtle diet. It will probably be in a bag that looks like the one pictured above with a different color tag sewed on the bottom of the bag.
