Hello :)

My name is Cynthia and I really love you guys.

I usually don't do posts when I have questions because I find all the information on your forum stickies or previous posts. I hope to become a more active member in this forum :)

I just wanted to say thank you. I have followed your suggestions, care sheets, all extra information and all is well with our Russian Tortoise.

We took him today to the vet. His doctor said that he was doing very well. It is all thanks to you guys. From showing me pictures of adequate pens (both indoor and outdoor) to the list of foods he should be eating.

Thank you!!!!

Thanks guys!
I would not be here without you!
Shout out to Dayna! She accepted the ornate box turtle we found on the road.

During the vet visit, I must say this little guy is a player. lol
He had all the nurses attention; they would go in and look at him and touch him. Especially the back legs. They would ask a lot of questions about him.

The vet too! She loved him. I guess that here there are more dogs and cat owners than reptile owners.

She said that he was fine and that he looked great.

We had him for about a year and he came with really bad shell rot.

One thing that the vet told us was that he is too light; I have read on feeding a captive tortoise, but I would like more information.

I would like to get him a little more heavy. She said he was a bit too light, but was in overall great health.

Thanks :)

It was funny how she gave him a dandelion as a treat (to eat there) and he refused to eat it. lol

That's quite normal that he refused food @ the vets. He was probably rather anxious being somewhere different and getting handled by strangers.

What's his current diet now? I personally don't find him skinny. He looks great.

Welcome to the Forum. Your tortoise has such a sweet face. I love the first photo. His eyes looks so shiny and bright. I love Russian tortoises.

Variety of greens I would say. I don't feed all of these every day, but vary it. I put them in piles in different locations so he can visit each pile when he wants to eat it.

What we have right now is envide, bock choy, turnip greens, and water cress. I do give him some Timothy hay once in a while. He refuses to eat opuntia cactus and escarole.

On occasion he gets carrots and sometimes squash like butternut squash. Usually though the carrots he avoids.

For treats strawberries usually (once a month or once every 2 months?).

I also have cuttle bone inside the enclosure for additional calcium.

Plus all the food he eats outside too (weeds and such).

This is what we usually give him. I am trying even more variation and seeing what he likes. Do you know if it is safe to feed him Radicchio?

Thanks
:)
