I just got off the phone with Yvonne and my new baby should be here tomorrow morning! When s/he gets here I will have 2 Tortadise babies, 2 Greg T babies and a Yvonne baby...man, thats alot of babies! I can't wait! Will post pics as soon as I un-box the little dude. I sent Yvonne my Dad's old stamp collection so it would be taken care of and she has graciously decided to send me this little guy/gal. In honor of that, his/her name will of course be....OBAMA!

April fools!

The name is going to be Stamps. Very appropriate for a tortoise I think!

Well, there aren't many things I can say I actually hate...

I hate the wind!!!!

I hate getting water in my face in the pool!!!

I HATE SHIPPING BABY TORTOISES!!!!!

I'm going to be a nervous wreck until I hear that the baby has arrived safely.

I am with you. I won't ship my baby box turtles but that has more to do with them being only 5 - 10 grams and I can't help but think if something goes wrong on those little guys then it would be very fast for them to dehydrate or over heat. I am not nearly as worried about a larger species. I will either call you or post here the minute Stamps gets here tomorrow. :)

This is Stamps. He was sent to me this morning by Yvonne. I don't know what she told the UPS guy, but the plane landed in Dallas at 4:30 this morning and they delivered Stamps promptly at 7:00 am! He popped out of the container so full of energy it was hard to get these pictures!

Wow...I didn't notice it in real life, but he's got some pyramiding. I kept him in an open-topped bin, but he was tucked into his heated, moistened, sphagnum moss hiding place whenever he wasn't out and about. I think, if you can, he needs a closed chamber.

I'm so relieved he has arrived. I'm a nervous wreck when I have to ship a tortoise.

He will live in a closed chamber that I spray down each morning and evening. Even with the closed and humid conditions, I have trouble with pyramiding on all of mine. Less so on the Leopards than the Sulcatas. I am convinced that it is caused by the basking light only because the Leopards hardly ever use theirs and their pyramiding is very light while the Sulcatas are under theirs all the time. Humidity is the same on both sides, same bulb used to bask, same temps, same food. The only difference is there is moss and plants in the Leo side and not on the Sulcata side because they destroy everything I put in there for them in minutes. This summer is going to be a lot easier to get them outside in natural light, heat and humidity so I hope that helps.

I know exactly how you feel. You never know how those shippers will handle them and worry about the box being upside down, crushed, lost... On the positive side, I haven't had a single problem shipping mine through FEDEX, so I'm hoping this is a good sign they care more about shipping animals.

Greg when I talked to the UPS guy because he was over an hour early (7 am!), he said that they always try and deliver the animals first. I was 10 minutes away from the office when he came and he actually told me he would wait for me to get there! When does that ever happen with a normal delivery? He said if he had to leave, he would call me and circle back within 10 minutes. It gives me alot more confidence to ship my babies when we start getting them (I have 6.7 three toed/ornata/gulfcoast box turtles).

Off topic (I guess since it is my topic I can do what I want, lol) the two I got from you in October are amazing! They are already 25% bigger than their two 4 month older step siblings. I brought my work camera home last night so I will post pictures soon.
