Should I be concerned about this white I'm seeing on Benny's shell? ImageUploadedByTortForum1393685860.862137.jpgImageUploadedByTortForum1393685878.878169.jpgImageUploadedByTortForum1393685900.428136.jpgImageUploadedByTortForum1393685913.361457.jpg

Beautiful Leo .....I don't see any thing out of the ordinary from the pics. I can narrow down to 2 guesses of what you might see.
#1 New growth lines in-between scutes is often seen as "very white"
#2 Water Residue... -Normal tap water will include some of the more harmless minerals include copper, magnesium, sulfur and sodium, and are generally not a problem to most consumers. Other naturally-occurring mineral deposits can be problematic and depend upon the location of the tap water source can include lead, lithium, silver and even uranium. #1 **Calcium is a very common, naturally-occurring mineral that causes problems with users of tap water. While small amounts of calcium are necessary to detoxify water, too much calcium in water can lead to build up that when your water evaporates your left seeing the calcium deposits aka " white " areas on his carapace. Calcium is the main determiner of "hard" water--water that has a high instance of dissolved minerals in it.

Yes, you should be very concerned. So concerned, you should send him over too me.:p:D
Just kidding, that is a beautiful leopard and I don't see anything wrong either.

I guess we're not seeing what you're seeing. I don't see anything wrong with the shell either.

Ok thanks guys. I was a little neurotic then. He/she has lots of new growth lines suddenly over last few weeks, days are getting longer here and sun has actually show a few times, may be a factor. Maybe these are just really white white patches where his other white appears a bit more yellow tinted
Glad you all think he looks great.

A better shot showing the "extreme white" I was trying to show early. It's appearing on more of the shell
I'm starting to get a bit panicky about it. Shell is still good and hard. And he's had a very sudden extreme growth spurt recently, but the white is on old growth and new. Can you guys see it in this picture? ImageUploadedByTortForum1394390442.102186.jpg

I agree with Heather. My question is, is there anything hard that he could be rubbing up against? A short rock type den maybe? That's what it is looking like to me in that last picture. Just a little shell wear that is perfectly normal.

There's nothing he's rubbing on, so I don't think it's being caused by that. My girlfriend and I were examining him and it has a sheen, almost like mother of pearl
Maybe he's magical and I should buy a lotto ticket and rub it on him lol
I am going to try and stop worrying about it. He seems very healthy and he's an eating machine.
He's also gotten very strong. He nearly pushed himself out of my hands when I was looking at him, owwww claws!

This guy is mostly indoors, correct?
I examined my Leopards yesterday. They have this same white along their new growth lines but because they spend a lot of time outside it "tans" fairly quickly.
I wouldn't be surprised if your guys white spots tan too after a summer filled with time outdoors.

Thanks Heather. Yes, he is unfortunately imprisoned by Mother Nature right now. This is the current condition of his yard ImageUploadedByTortForum1394641931.118706.jpg
