I have an Amazon Basin Yellow foot tortoise. I am 57 years old and I bought my tortoise when I was 6 years old. I have had her 51 years. I was worried about her and took her to the vet and that's when I found out she is an amazon basin yellow foot. But good news, she is in excellent health. The exotics vet was in awe of her and I was really proud. He could not believe I have had her since I was 6 years old! I love animals so it did not seem strange to me. I will post a picture soon. Tommy

Hi and welcome! So for 51 years you did not know what she was? What was going on with her that made you decide to take her to a Vet? Very amazing you have had her for almost your entire life so far. That is just so neat.

Hello and Welcome:). Just seen your beautiful tort on exoticsdr thread. Beautiful tort. Love how long you have had her. Wish I could have started when I was that young. Thanks for joining and sharing.

Hi Tommy, and welcome to the Forum!!

You just don't know how lucky you are to live in the same area as Dr. Weston. Good tortoise vets are so few and far between. Like Jacqui, I'm curious what brought you to the vet after all these years. Was Pedro ill?

And, like Grampa, I'm curious how you only have one tortoise after all these years.

I'm glad you've joined our Forum, and hope to see you posting some tortoise antics and stories soon.

I knew "he" was a yelloefoot, I just did not know he was an "Amazon Basin" yellowfoot. About 10 years ago I discovered the remains of a couple of eggs and concluded "he" was a she. The reason I took her to the vet was she was eating less, enough that I was worried. She has spent a lot of time inside, as we had had an unusual amount of cold weather. Could not have picked a better vet for her first doctor visit as he assured me she was in great shape.

56lbs?! That's incredible. What a beauty. How big was Pedro when you acquired her? She looks great!

She was a little bit bigger than a computer mouse, as best as I can remember.

I have had many over the years, mostly local box turtles. She is the only "store bought" tortise I have ever had.

Doc, you made my day as well, and thank you so much for your time and advice. I told my mom to find some old pics of her so hopefully I will post some soon. TD

Dr Weston was awesome. I found a great vet and a cool friend at the same time.
