Hi, I have recently purchased a bag of live Sphagnum moss for my 6/7 month old marginated tortoise - Douglas.
I spray his indoor tortoise enclosure with water each morning before leaving work, and the humidity reads around 60% at this point. However by the time i come home from work it is as low as 30%.
I do give him warm water soaks each day, but wanted to give him some way of keeping the humidity during the day. Someone mentioned sphagnum moss, so I have purchased some to put in his enclosure.
My question is whereabouts I should place this? I placed some just next the the basking area (where he spends most of the time), so it would still be warm but provide some extra moisture for him. However within 2 minutes he had gone over and started eating it! I have now removed it, in case he eats a lot of it during the day. Is this the best place to put the moss, out in the open? Or am I best off placing it in the hidden/covered section of his enclosure - where he sleeps? This place sees very little light, so I wouldn't want it to be cold and damp!
Thanks for any advice!
